I left my boy out last night! He was checked this am by yard owner and would have been brought in if needed as would have been his two companions.

I turned up at 2.30ish after work thinking may be he would be in. No, still out.

Went down to field to check him and feed him his minerals and other than bums to hedge, warm as toast and not at all bothered by the weather. I did feel bad at 1 am hearing the wind and driving rain.

Totally unrugged and happy as larry!

I think well fed horses with some natural shelter or if they have good rugs on, they cope, but this constant driving rain is just so miserable. I feel sorry for all the lambs and calves our in the fields, poor things:( I have to say my mare comes in at night anyway and she has been in all day today, rugged up and toasty warm & dry. She got turned out in the indoors school for a leg stretch. I saw some poor miserable looking horses huddled up in fields with no rugs on and not much fat on them, when i was out driving this morning, dont know how people can keep them like that:-(

Cor lucky you! Mine have been in all day. I've just chucked them out for a few hours just now as its finally stopped. Hate having them in during the day - double mucking out!

Neddy's the same. He looks a bit miffed when his fieldmates kick him out the field shelter (they're a bit mean to him >: ( ) but once he starts munching, he's fine!

My lot were in an awful state this morning...they all live out rugged. Rugs were soaked right through, and they were all shivering loads, despite bouts of galloping around due to emergency vehicles parked right by the fence to deal with a fallen tree and a crashed car. Even my hardy Exmoor pony was tucked up, shivering and thoroughly depressed. The field was totally waterlogged, it was freezing cold, there were big branches down all over the place and the wind was howling. And what were those strange reddy brown things hurtling through through the air and crash landing all over the place? 100 mph pheasants!! Whoosh,,,squawk.....arrgh....thud!!! I got the horses in and rugged them in something drier, Mr Arab is now back in his winter rug, he was shivering so much I thought he was going keel over, poor old lad.

We have had a mahoosive tree come down at our yard with the trunk just missing the stables so no actual damage to them. I heard an intial crack as I arrived, not knowing where the noise had come from and just after self and OH had walked past it down it came

Our natives hardly know what rugs are but have less coat atm because of that sunny weather we had a bit back .... they were shivering and miserable today. We could hardly stand in some of the wind we were getting and our extremities were numb with the cold and wet. I think it was worse than the frozen weather we had a couple months back. So Today we towelled them off and they have rugs on.

I didn't relise how bad the weather was going to be last night otherwise I would have bought mine in it was awful. My haflinger was only in a lw & he was freezing this morning so I bought them in for an hour to have some breakfast & put them back out in there nice thicker rugs & are now all snug.

Same thing for us, one of our boys, an 8 year old native gypsy cob has NEVER needed a rug on before, but I'm sure it's because March was so warm he's lost the waterproof and warmth in his winter coat and this morning he was shivering and grumpy, I've never seem him cold before, so he's now rugged.
Our other boy, native unclipped Welsh D is in a rug for the first time today in more than 2 years.

Went to check them again about 1/2 hour ago, both warm and happy, ears forward again, munching on their round bale. :D:D

I have just had to bring my two shetlands in - they have never ever been stabled, but were so miserable in the field despite putting out loads of hay. I have never seen a shetland shiver and they looked like two drowned rats, poor loves.

I only have one spare stable so chucked them in together - god knows what carnage will ensue overnight, but at least they are warm and dry now.

There are loads of floods in shropshire and a couple of roads near us have now been closed as are impassble. Thank god we live at a top of a hill - it may be windy but at least we should never flood.

Hope everyone and theirs are ok.

My yearling had me worried... As soon as it was light I went up to check. She's huddled in with the other girls and all warm behind a hedge and a tree nibbling at bits in the undergrowth. Not that wet either... Relief.

I do feel for owners who have no shelter natural or otherwise. I am pleased that we have a wooded area.

Well, I finally caved tonight and put a rig on my big fat but shivering 3 yo!! All others have had rugs on most of the time over the last week as two are oldies, one is still growing his full clip out and the other, well he's just a bit girl! The only one who's remained unrigged all winter is my youngster but even he was pretty chilly.

What's worse though is my pony (the boss of the herd) has fallen out with my horse (2nd in command) and is currently chasing him away from everyone and being downright nasty (don't think the weather's helping his mood!!!) Get down tonight, pony rather 'hobbly' and discover as a result of him beinga total moron he's got kicked high up on his front leg and has a bit of a wound. I can't stable him as the mood he's currently in he'll go ballistic and i also fear the leg will swell up so have had to leave him out (put a warmer rug on to try and improve his mood) and hope for the best really. i don't want to give him painkillers as the fact he's feeling a bit sore is stopping him chasing the other horse quite so aggressively! I wouldn't mind but they've been field mates for 17 years!!!

Grr, blooming horses!!!!

We had a lovely dry day about an hour ago it started to pour and it's disgusting now , I am going to get the out side two in there's no point I them standing out in this even in rugs.

Mine have been out 24/7 since end of march, small ponys been rugless & big one in nothing warmer than a mw & both been ignoring hay in the field for the last week. But given the wind & rain both back in hw combos & big one has an old stable rug under too. Had them in for a few hours but mine made it clear she was ready for out. Both ignoring the hay in the corner with natural cover when we left & grazing happily in the centre of the field.

My girl was out last night and she was shivering this morn but not cold to touch. I think everyone at my yard thinks I'm dead cruel leaving her out but then most of them don't put the horses out in the rain. To be honest I was glad she was out last night because the wind blew a panel off the stable roof so I imagine that would have scared her half to death and she hates being in as it is so that would have caused more hate towards stabling. Can't wait for some beautiful sun!

Mine,as usual, have been out unrugged all winter. They have been fine.
However, the WB is now in his summer suit, the grass has not grown, the wind was from an unkind direction,it has rained nearly every day for a month,so yes, they were shivvering this morning.
I was prepared however with clean stables, straw for thatching and loads of hay. They spent the day inside wearing their straw rugs and really appreciated it. (The WB is usually trying to dimantle the door after an hour in the stable.)
The rain and wind has now eased here and they are back out with more hay in the pond......I mean field.

Our field was ok earlier, this evening there was part of our hedge in the lane, the lane was flooded and there are a couple of lakes in the horses field. We tried to tow the hedge into the field owners gateway but our rope broke. We moved part of it. There is a deep ditch on one side of the lane that you cant see now, i hope the cars dont fall down it. Horses are ok though, the hedge is on the outside of the fence so its still up.
