Hi All
I was wondering if anyone knows how we can move up the ladder so to speak at dressage. We are currently competing successfully at Novice level at our local riding club and wondered where we go from here? Where are all the competitions held and do we need to be members of BD to enter. We live in the Midlands (Derby) and would appreciate any advice offered

I would personally get some lessons with a good dressage instructor/trainer and ask for their advice! For a cheaper than BD competition with second rounds and national finals etc (so more than just a "normal" unaffiliated comp) is trailblazers competitions :). Was very big when I was in Notts/Leics last year. Also lots of places (barleyfields/vale veiw etc) have unaffiliated competions in your area as well as BD :)

Well done for getting to where you are! Not so many RCs run classes above novice as there generally isn't the demand. If you want to dip your toe into the world of BD you can enter Prelim without being a member on an unregistered horse. With Novice - you will need to purchase a class ticket which is in addition to the entry fee. Not cheap but it will give you an idea of the competition. To be honest, it is not cheap to join BD as you pay to join as a rider and also to register your horse so if you want to persue this you do have to make up your mind whether it's worth it. The plus points are that competitions are usually on decent surfaces and always have BD listed judges so you can be assured of a decent standard of judging! I don't know your area but if you go on the BD website you can find out venues etc. It's a good website with lots of useful info etc. Good luck!
