Have just been given the go ahead from my Yard Manager to organise a dressage comp.
I have been wanted to do this for ages as it will be in aid of the spinal research charity which is something very important to me.
Can anyone give me any tips and ideas on organisation and how to make it run as smoothly as possible.

Thanks

wow that's so cool! I don't know about organising one but you can count me in

Gosh, that's a broad subject! Anything in particular you want to know?

One tip, make sure you've got enough helpers! Plus food & drinks to keep them all happy!

Advertise, Advertise, Advertise and well in advance... it's so hard to get entries to non-affiliated comps even with listed judges as there are just so many around.

We've found competitors love prizes and gimmicks as well, so if you can get the local saddlery to donate a gift i.e. headcollar/summer sheet or something for winners that would go down well.

Also, rosettes for highest placed junior rider / veteran horse etc are very popular!

Good luck i'm sure it will be a fab day

Try contact a local riding club maybe, perhaps someone who normally arranges shows would be kind enough to pass on some advice, just an idea.

Other than that two way radios are a godsend for co ordinating parking, make sure you have enough of everything and lots of helpers on the day
