My mare has a long back and is slightly bum high. This makes it difficult for her to step through from behind and track up properly. She is only four and did her first dressage test last weekend but comments were as I expected ( needs to use her back end and step through more) . With the correct training will she get there or because of her conformation will it be impossible for her?? Opinions please? (She scored 62% and was a very well behaved girl, it was combined training and she also went clear in the show jumping so good really but was just wondering )

I don't claim to be an expert but as your mare is only four she is still growing and will change shape a lot. The horse you have in front of you now will look very different in a couple of years. Being well behaved and getting 62% is great for her first show.

im not a dressage expert by a long way but i do regularly compeate at dressage, and i think that score is a really good one for your first time out and for a 4yr old too!,well done! your horse is young and hasnt maturered fully yet, this well may be a weakness your horse will have but it will get better with the more work you do and the more muscle your horse builds up as hes only young.

Im not an expert but i have this exact issue with my horse - he is so long and therfore more difficult to 'put together' my instructor as soon as she saw him commented on it and told me i need to take off 6 inches off of each end to make a better picture which with lateral exercises and transitions i can now do - she rides him often in my lessons and can create it alot quicker than i can but in answer to your question it isnt impossible just a bit more work than usual! So rewarding when you get there though - but 62% is pretty fab for a 4yr old.
