Novice 26 has a 5 meter loop in from the track in canter so do i :-

On the right rein

A) keep right bend push over with my outside leg then maintain right bend and push back with my inside leg

or

B) Keep right bend push over with outside leg then change to left bend and ride back to the track then change back to right bend

or

C) no of the above because i am numpty and don’t know what i am doing......

If i tried to do what u describe in 'b' id have a flying change half way thru - personally i can only ride it as described in a.

Good point i would probably get the same come to think about it. Just not sure if i should face the way i am going or keep the horse parallel to the track????

I think i will ride it and see how it flows it is only a novice so it cant be expected to be too difficult.

It is supposed to be ridden as you would in trot, with changes of bend. The horses body should follow the line that you are riding, so no you shouldn't keep it's body parallel to the track.

The degree of bend is only slight on a 5m loop and how much you show greatly depends on your horses balance!

Keep the same inside bend all the way through otherwise you could get a flying change.

I'd be careful how to ride it with your outside leg though. Make sure you're moving the shoulders and don't get leg yeild! He should be facing the way he's going, not staying parallel. It's an exercise to lead onto counter canter.

Hope that makes sense!

Right so a right bend changing to left bend then back to right bend for the corner????

He is very balanced in canter so in order to get good marks would the judge be looking for the rhythm to stay the same and for the loop to flow without too much bend either way?

Please correct me....

My problem is my instructor has no interest in dressage but gets my horse and we have improved no end. I have tried 3 different dressage instructors, all very good, but not managed to understand my big lad.

So i have the right instructor for my horse but she can’t tell me how to ride the moves correctly in accordance to the BD.

If thats the case the only way is going to be trial and error - once u have had a go get your sheets and see what needs to be improved on for a better mark next time - will be interesting to find out what mark you get for you loop - do let me know pls x
