In preparation for a wet winter of competitions, I thought I would prepare an extra kit of dry competition clothes. I usually use my navy jacket, but I do have a hacking jacket. Could I use this at novice level (and save navy for elem)? what do you wear for dressage with hacking jacket? stock or tie? if stock, what colour?

I've done dressage in my tweed before (that is what you mean by hacking jacket, isn't it?). I wore a cream stock & cream johds rather than my usual white ones.

As far as I am aware (although no one actually follows it) a hacking jacket is correct dress for prelim and novice.
I always wear mine at novice (and like you navy at elem) and just have a cream shirt and tie to match.

Yup Tweed is correct up to and including Novice, and with Tweed always coloured/patterned stock. Cream or White stocks are correct with Navy/Black Jackets.

Edited to say that shirt and tie along with tweed are also correct!

Good luck!
