I may have to relocate with my Husband to Switzerland next year. Does anyone have any info about riding, particularly dressage there? What is the best area to live as far as training/competing is concerned. Any information anyone could give at all would be most welcome.

I have moved to a mountain in Switzerland. When I was in the UK, years ago I evented and raced to a high standard and I must admit that I do miss not being able to ride around here. I haved a friend whose children show jump internationally (sorry I know nothing about dressage) and she lives in Echallens just above Lausanne. Anywhere in Switzerland I think you have to travel to events but it is also a great lifestyle in all the other aspects - being near the lake, and mountains for skiing in winter is great (it was -17.5 this morning! - but sunny) They are tremendously sporty and cycling is massive (I still can't get my head round why anyone wants to go through such pain of cycling up a mountain). I understand Tichino - which I think is on Lake Lugano is lovely too. It is a beautiful country but does take some adjusting to especially if your languages aren't too good - that's also quite an important point - if you speak French, German or Italian, whichever of those the local language is, is not a bad kick-off point to locate. Some friends were talking about buying and selling of houses and I think there is a mega sting in the tail if you ever want to sell, re government tax and if you are foreign the house you buy - if you do - has to have a permit for foreign people to buy. Maybe it is better to rent (which a lot of Swiss people do and also foreign workers) until you find out what and where you really want to be. Good luck
