Hello everybody,

I am a new member of this forum. I just arrived in England two weeks ago (and for 3 months minimum), and my horses stayed in France.

I research a nice place to have some dressage lessons (individual) in Warwickshire (Usually, I have my teacher in Portugal, to the Dressage Academy), around the area of Lighthorne.
My level is not so high, but I want to continue to learn dressage correctly (and not as some clubs in France, just to earn money).
Do you know one ?

And I will be very happy to meet some people passionated by horses also :)

Hoping to read you soon

Alex

PS. Sorry for my mistakes in english.

You are in the best place, so many trainers in or around Warwickshire.
Are you bringing your horses over or are you wanting to have lessons on a trainers horse?

Firstly, I will just want private lessons on a trainers horse.
If my contract will be extended in December, I would like to move my horses in England (I put a thread in "West Midlands" in this site, to not how it happen for a livery, and where I could find it).

Try Paul Friday, he is in Lighthorne.
Not sure if he does lessons on Schoolmasters but will certainly point you in the right direction.

Also, try Henry Boswell. Again, not sure if he's got any schoolmasters but again will help.

Nat Allen is the other side of radway.

I'll have a think and see if anyone else is around. If you need numbers or anything, PM me.

You are so close to the M40 that you could travel a little further if you wanted to.
There are a couple of yards that I would avoid, so again if you want to, message me.

Good Luck.
:D

Paul Friday and Natalie Allen are both very close to you but I've worked at both of these yards and dont believe they have any schoolmasters you could ride, Natalie perhaps might have one (he is an older GP horse) but I've never seen her let anyone else ride him. Still worth contacting them both though.

James McCullough is an eventer by trade (competes to a reasonably high level and has qualified for Burghley Young event horse 2 years on the trot) but he has a PSG dressage schoolmaster available for lessons, not sure if he's too far from you though? Here's his website:

This is not in Warwickshire but the closest yard that has a number of dressage schoomasters - if you can get transport this would be right up your street. Mainly PRE's at this yard so would be the sort of horses you are familiar with.

Thanks for your reply kc100 !
Dovecote Stables seems to be very nice with some of my favourite horses ! But maybe it's too far from my place. I'll see.

I have an appointment with Natalie this week.
I hope it will be ok to have lessons on one of her horses, I don't know, but she said nothing about prices also, so ... I think I will be afraid when I will compare with prices in Portugal (or France too). We will see later what happen.

I have a contact with Marie from Castle Hill Riding School too. It's not so expensive.
Anybody else knows her ?

I'm a daily lurker and never post, but feel I must to recommend Dovecote, I have schoolmaster lessons there and its made the world of difference :) Quality horses and instruction

reading thread with interest as i have searched all summer for school master lessons in the area. Went to Dovecote 3 times but I got the impression Sam (despite his obvious knowledge and skill) was just bored by teaching me (perhaps I am not good enough) but apart from minor positional corrections he just kept saying 'how does that feel?' so much i got so that I couldn't think of good answers any more (umm it just feels like me riding). Also very puzzled as to why initially he asked me to ride with my hands very wide apart (much wider than my hips - elbows in, hands out) i tried to discuss this with him and he then decided he wouldn't ask me to do it which puzzled me even more!

I have contacted about 20 people, mostly got no response at all, or told they didn't do school master lessons or been told they would call back only to never hear anything and have future calls ignored. tried three people including two riding schools/training centres and dovecote but not yet found what I would like. which is progressive lessons on school masters where I can perfect some of the more 'advanced' work or if need be re-jig my riding in order to do the same at some point in the future. Its very frustrating actually because the instructor i have on my own horse (who is as yet too green to practice what I want on - but is rapidly reaching the stage where I wish I had more recent practice at that level) is kind enough to say I am quite trainable and a passable rider. I am really keen and committed and really really want to improve my riding so I can teach my own horse to the best of my ability.

sorry I rambled must be tired :) anyway perhaps i will gather some more contacts from here.

Blythe Spirit, have you thought about going a little further, and going to Sarah at Summerhouse?

thanks I will try :) - just got a 'no' and 'we don't know anywhere' from Ekko
Don't take this the wrong way GlamourDol but do they really have horses that are capable of say half pass in trot and canter /changes/ collected work. so far all the riding schools and training centres I have tried have been happy to help but have not had horses at all capable - however as I leant these skills myself at a riding school (now closed) years ago I am quite willing to believe its possible just checking :) if they do have the horses its very good value for money so would be great!

Have you contacted James McCullough? http://www.jameseventing.com/about/

I appreciate he is an eventer but has ridden to PSG and has his PSG horse available for schoolmaster lessons - he is really lovely too, very patient and was very popular for lessons at my old yard.

Summerhouse absolutely have horses schooled to that level. Lots with very established changes (as they have quite a few jumping schoolmasters too) and then several that school to at least PSG with at least one schooled to GP. I recommend them quite a lot as I have been going to Sara for lessons with the horse I had on loan as well as school master lessons to improve me on the flat. The horses are not push button but they are well schooled (regularly tuned up by Sara), forward and fun to ride. I am horseless over winter so hoping to squeeze in a few lessons to tide me over :-)

Thanks that's great - better if they are not push button in many ways as you learn from working with different horses with different feels and personalities. thanks all for the leads sorry I hijacked the thread a bit

Hi everybody !
Finally I already had a lesson with Natalie Allen.
It is really a good teacher I think (quite the same quality of lesson than my teacher in Portugal) so I hope to ride in her stables once again very soon :)

Just replying on this thread because it comes up when I Google "dressage trainers in Warwickshire". Just wanted to offer myself as I am happy to teach dressage to all levels of riders, from people who have never done it at all right up to successful competitors at the higher levels.
