Well after getting my worst ever dressage score (55 - yes I really did say 55!) at Goring Heath yesterday, and after watching my test on video last night- I had to go back today to pick up my test sheet!!

Split evenly between 4's & 5's. There was not one positive comment made. (Both of his halts were perfectly square, but no comment was made we were just given a 5).

The final comment by the judge was "Not shown to advantage. Going long". That's it!

I'm not sour grapes but was really disappointed the judge did not have 1 nice thing to say about us, and it honestly was really not that bad - he certainly did not misbehave.

I thought the idea of dressage (especially at pre-novice level) was to encourage and constructively criticise riders?

Lucky i've got hard skin!! lol

Let's just hope the same judge isn't at Larkhill next weekend!!

That's not really very fair to not find anything nice to say! I went to my first show this year to do the dressage - only the third one I've done and I got very encouraging remarks even though we made quite a hash of most of the first test (prelim 4). I got 'canter downhill and poll low' for this buck!

We did better in the second test and got a 5th place rossette though!

Thats is really nasty. I did my first dressage ever recently. Got 50% as he was very over excited, squealing and cantering off! and I got some really nice comments which I found very encouraging

Its annoying when judge is like this, I remember I rode what I thought was a good test. We had scored 76% on our previous outing and I thought we had did better, scored 62% and the only comment was horse not really built for dressage, rather downhill. Mentioned this to my instructor and judge has a reputation for objecting to anything other than warmbloods competing in dressage. Good luck for your next comp.

I have done some pretty awful tests (at affiliated level)

but at the end the judge always had something positive to say... Perhaps the judge was just having a bad day!

Thats a score for a horse that is blowing up! Some dressage judges at this level can be very unknowledgeable! What section were you in?

Do you want to show us the test? And then we (maybe) could be more helpful!

If you've read my Tyrella report from yesterday, OH got comment at the bottom

"Dressage not her bag!! but she thoroughly enjoyed putting you through your paces!!
Enjoy the x country!!

COmment for 2nd leg yield - "slightly better but does not like this sideways lark dad!!"

Rest of comments were rather along the tense/resistant type theme, but the judge def had a bit of a sense of humour
