Dressage Judges

I was at an unaffiliated prelim dressage on Thursday night and one very strange comment on my sheet said that i should have dropped my contact before saluting to the judge so i got a 6.

Is this correct because if it is then all my other tests have been wrong? I know unaffiliated judges can vary dramatically but i just wanted to make sure i was right and he was wrong.

Never heard that before! I normally just halt, put reins into my left hand and salute with my right, then leave the arena free walk on a long rein - dont loosen the contact before then!
 
Lol, thank you i thought i was going mad, he must have wrote that comment for the whole class all 22 horses…

I did come 4th but frankly the rest of his limited comments were equally poor.

He said he didn’t jump into the canter, my horse canter transitions are the best thing about him.

I don’t think i will bother going in front of him again.

Was this a listed judge?
 
frank would start munching the grass if I did that!, what are you supposed to do when you halt at beginning of test too then in his opnion

am assuming you took one had of the rein to salute?

very random.
 
Hils - No it was an unaffiliated prelim so probably just grabbed someone off the street.... lol

The judges are normally quite good and they do have some listed judges, this guy has judged there before but i have never been in front him.

Ester - Yes i put my reins in one hand and saluted.
 
Well i got told off for not jumping into canter.

Hils - the comment was "didn’t release contact in the salute" He didn’t comment on the halt itself it was about the salute. Weird...

as a writer if asked to write that I think I would question it politely, something like I never do that and it has never come up before.

would that be ever so rude.
