Its my birthday next week and OH has agreed to pay for me to have a few lessons. I'd really like some dressage lessons on a schoolmaster as being largly self taught i dont have a clue when its comes to asking for outlines or anything or even what they should feel like!!

So any reccomendations for somewhere within a reasonable distance of Hemell Hempstead sort of way? (although i live in middlesex so can so bucks/berks/surry areas too)

Ideally not somewhere that i need a morgage for each lesson as the cheaper they are the more i can have!!

Hallingbury Hall Equestrian Centre near Bishops Stortford have dressage schoolmasters. They are a bit pricey if I remember right but their horses always used to be good and daughter of the owner has recently won the Dressage Young Professionals award so they must be doing something right!

I have never been there, but have heard good things about Turville, but not sure if they have availability.

I've ridden at Turville and it's fantastic, but they have very few slots available and it's nearly impossible to book a weekend.

I've also ridden at Contessa and was very disappointed - I wouldn't go back.

I have been riding at Contessa in Ware for just over a year and have learnt to ride everything from shoulder-in to piaffe. Granted I went there with my AI already under my belt, but the progress I have made is incredible. The Advanced Horses are wonderful and I can't praise Tina's teaching enough. It is not cheap but if you are serious about progressing you will find it hard to beat.

Talland in Cirencester (Pammy Hutton's dressage yard) is excellent for this. You will need to ask for a senior instructor and a schoolmaster and I'm sure you will have great fun. It's in any event a great yard to visit and you are able to sit and watch the horses being schooled. There is a cafe so OH can get himself a drink/snack whilst you ride. :)
