I have visions of all sort happening to me on my first attempt !

My daughter took her just 5 yr old to do a prelim at her first affiliated event, his first comment read 'explosive entry'.
He bucked 3 times going down the centre line!

Hehe - I'm having similar nightmares about showjumping

I had similar nightmares about my first dressage test but she was amazing...well for her she was...and we got 57% I think. I'm doing my 2nd ever test on Sunday but with our canter currently a joke (will she go on the correct leg? Will she slow down at the right letter?) I'm just doing it for fun and not expecting anything.

Oh yes, only a few weeks ago at the riding club champs.. My horse decided that the test was far better executed in canter than as it was intended and he got so mad with me at one point he had a huge stamping tantrum when he should've been walking.
The marker was very nice and incredibly lenient and we got 49!! shocking I know but I was expecting about 58.
When he had his tantrum I got "almost walked" as a comment bless him.
I wanted to just ride out of the arena I was so ashamed! My horse is 16 too so no baby excuses!

My boy tends to go down the centre line at the end sideways (he knows he has almost finished). He stands sideways on to the judge and sticks his tongue out. Sigh!

Not me but a friend on her big WB. She had spent a fortune (over £10,000) on it as a 'potential' dressage horse

Took it to a competition it was a complete nightmare. As she entered the arena he decided he didn't want to trot. She managed to contain it in a very bouncy sideways canter all the way down the centre line.........and then past the judges car and across the arena next to hers

Worst test on my boy was actually at Rodbaston horse trials a few years back we one of the very first and none of the cross country/sj had started. Our entry down the centre line was excellent and then the loudspeaker burst into life saying "good morning ladies and gentlemen, welcome....." Chance realised the fun to come and spent the rest of the test squealing and doing handstands

My horses all seem to like to salut with me by bowing! my mare at the mo has a terrible habit when we halt of looking around for a treat...so best to avoid giving them treats whilst on board....altho its terrible i know i cant stop doing it!!

oh well we wont be competing for a while so no harm for now!

Yes, I remember 2 such occasions where I was left mortified. The first was my very first dressage test with my new horse (my first horse from ponies) who was a 16.2hh with attitude! Basically we left the arena several times... it was a little pony club thing so they let us continue. I think "brave" was mentioned on my sheet! lol.

Other was a couple of years ago - my current horse was being a bit spooky as it was a really windy day and there were terrifying trees right by the arena (@ Burgie BE). He was fine throughout until end salute, I took my hand off the rein and he lept 10 feet sideways chucking me out the side door and then galloping flat out across the field to my mum!!

Almost every time!!!
Ages ago as Osbaldeston, he was spooking at the drinks machine in the corner, I was politely (as we then had an audience!) asking him to go forwards but he ended up running backwards taking all the boards with him.
Recently the judge rang the bell and my horse freaked, spinning at the judges car and then did the test like a loony, going nowhere near the judges car. She put on my sheet 'sorry about the bell' bless her.
Time before, spooking at everything, people, caravan, horses, bikes etc.
Ive not been since

he he he they are funny! I have just posted on the worst sj experience thread - it was the same day!

I took my ex racer to her first combined training, we warmed up and she was going so well i even heard a pushy mother say to her daughter "why can't you get maisy going like that" and pointed at me and the Toffmeister as we rode past! I was bursting with pride!!!

Then we entered the ring Oh MY WORD!!!!

The Toffmeister thought walk means passage halt means piaffe and trot well that means jump a dressage board 3' and leave the ring at A performing a rein back! AAAAAAAAAAAA I had drawn a crowd I went peuce and decided that the show jumping couldn't possibly go any worse..... read on in the SJ experience thread!

I didn't even stay to collect my score sheet, wish i had now as i think it would have been hilarious!!!!!!!

Beaver Hall with my last horse - the woman waiting to go in after us said that I should have got a rosette for staying in the ring...

Obviously we were supposed to be going racing or something that day and I'd accidentally turned up at dressage? Horse had different plans to me, that's for certain

first dressage test, first show EVER, I was about 8 or 9, riding a lesson horse who was famous for holding her breath when you did up the girth... it was raining and I was so SO nervous... trotting down the center line... oo, my left stirrup feels really long, this is weird, look down just in time to see the ground rushing up to greet me! I hadn't tightened my girth enough and my saddle had slipped down under the mare's belly, who bless her, just stood there looking at me with mild curiosity. My trainer came into the ring, readjusted my saddle and I did my test half covered in mud and won a fourth place ribbon (there were only four people riding my test).
