Hi,

I am doing P15 on Saturday and am really struggling with it because it is on a long arena!

1. I can't seem to remember the test at all
2. I can't judge where all my circles should be as 20m doesn't cover half the arena any more.

Does anyone have any tips?

My boy can be explosive and tense at times so I do don't want to be worrying about the test anymore that I usually do just becasue its on a long arena.

Have you got a Dressage Diagrams account? If not I would sign up and buy the test to look at online and it will show you where your circles should be. Mind you I still can't do them

no comfort I know, but my trainer has a 60m school, so I have the opposite problem when I have a test in a 40m school, it seems too small and I run out of room on the long sides/diagonals. I have no school of my own.

I try to remember the test as a pattern of shapes in my head, rather than remembering the actual letters.

Prob no help, but I find that long arena is actually better as the movements are more spread out...

I once entered 2 tests, & as I learn them in the lorry on the way there, I found out just as we set off that they were going to be my first ever long arena tests....

Although you need to know the test, can you also get someone to call it for you so that you can concentrate on your horse and where you are supposed to be going without worrying about forgetting your test!

I'm rubbish at remembering too, don't know if will help you - I always get a few sheets of paper and draw the arena and keep drawing the shapes of the test again and again until I've got it sussed. I'm sorry I don't know your particular test, so not sure at which markers your circles are....

Good luck though.

I really want to do some long arena tests but all of the places round here only have smaller schools.
Our school at the yard is a 60x30 so I struggle in a 20 x 40.
I might have to be brave and go to Oldencraig one day!

You could take a few poles and mark out a 20x40 in your 60x30 for practice, though!

Royal Leisure have some listed as "long arena" from what I remember

see my school is 60x40, so you get me into a 20x40 arena and im like WHERE IS MY ROOM!?!

Btw I always get my tests read out as I am like the WORST test memoriser on the planet! I find this helps, but if you can get the diagram with the test that makes like 10x easier as you plan out the pattern rather than letters.

As will all dressage tests though, just hit the markers and you will get the majority of points!

If you get a reader I think you will be less stressed about it, so your horse will hopefully be less so too. Also a longer arena means you get more space to allow him to stretch! (I used to do it on a 17.2hh horse, long arenas were GREAT!)
