I know it's not the norm and I have ALWAYS had black tack- I cannot find my 2012 rule book but what is the rule for brown tack and is it frowned upon at competitions? Horse is at elementary level, and Been offered a nearly new brown saddle. It is not tan, it's dark brown... Any pics welcome of your dressage horses /ponies in brown tack x

Brown tack is fine!! Gosh that would be worse than the white glove debacle if they said you couldn't use brown tack!!!

My tack is all brown :)

My trainer/best friend gave me a double bridle for christmas and complained about hard it had been to find one in brown :D

My tack is all brown for dressage, I had to order the brown dressage saddle specially as it's so unusual apparently!:D

Brown is fine, see BD rule extract:

Saddles must be worn and be of English or Continental style and must be brown, black, grey or navy.

Damn, I'll have to change my grey western saddle before I affiliate then....

Yeah sadly...was wondering if I could do a walk-trot test HC in my western saddle on my youngster, but obviously not! Will have to get brave and put the English saddle on him!
The colours are interesting... I recall that the Navy came in because of those coloured wintecs, but GREY tack...that's just weird :D

the navy and grey probably refer to the selection of Fylde saddles which offer navy and grey suede :) . I've dressage'd at elementary level in black and brown tack and not had a problem! just brown is more unusual

I use brown tack for BD. I much prefer it on most horse colours- the only disadvantage is when you want to change your saddle! Finding brown dressage saddles is very hard - it can be very easy to sell (as hard to find) or very hard! The more you look, the more you will see an increasing number of people using brown saddles. I prefer dark brown, so without really looking it appears black anyway.

Thanks guys! Reason I asked is I actually know of someone who had a comment on your sheet for having tan tack. Those with brown out of interest what colour are your horses :D x

My horse wears brown tack and is competing at elementary and has also done medium in brown tack. My horse is light bay. She wears a white saddle cloth with a Bates Caprilli dressage saddle. Incidentially, she doesn't wear a flash nose band either just a lined and swelled cavesson.

I think some horses suit black some brown some both I use whatever I fancy.
I have a roan Clydesdale / welsh section D cross he is is very strikingly coloured and looks really silly in black.

dapple grey with brown tack (as I can only have one saddle/bridle and it's got to multi-task between the show ring and the dressage arena), and I've never had a comment on it. Then again, I'm only doing prelim and I think the judge is probably more concerned with the bucks/refusing to move/falling in that's going on than my saddle colour!
