I'm planning to start attending some dressage competitions in April this year, just intro as my girl will be 4 . My question is can I be marked down in dressage for looking too big on her? She's not quite made the height I wanted and although she carries me fine she's now 14.1/14.2hh and I'm 5'8 with long legs. I don't think we look ridiculous but it was suggested to me that we would be marked down for it and that I should sell her and get a bigger horse.

Selling isn't really an option I've had her from 10 months old and she's my baby but I do want to be able to compete her as she's got beautiful movement and is doing so well!

Of course you won't get marked down it's not showing :).

As long as you are the correct weight for her I'd not worry, there are quite a few people competing ponies out there. On the flip side I can look teeny tiny on my 'massive' 15.3hh :D and have never had that commented on either.

Get out there and have fun :).

You definitely entire be marked down. Take a look at a dressage sheet to see what you're marked on. And look at pics if WFP on his horses. I'm sure he must be about 8ft tall !

You won't be marked down. I'm also 5'8" and used to compete a 14.2 Dales pony up to Elementary (who often did better than the warmbloods!)

Doubt you would get marked down. She will probably grow some more anyway, if she is only rising 4. Depending on her breeding she could grow until at least six years of age.

The wrong side of 5'8 and both my rides are 14,1ish. I've been marked down for many things, but never for the length of my legs :p

:D to be honest I think dressage people much prefer those with lovely long legs, I think I get more penalised for my stumpy ones ;):D oh how I dream for longer legs that give that effortless elegant look!
