Dressage reins, any tips??

Ive got a pair of dressage reins that have rubber on the inside, ive just got them out to clean and they the rubber has gone a bit sticky at each end. Ive had this happen before with other rubber reins and ive just cheucked them because its more or less been all over, but these arnt that old and it only a small area.
Is there anything i can do to stop the stickyness or are they heading for the bin

the stickyness usually just comes from when you have cleaned them and also if they get wet when they dry they can be a little sticky
