Hi,

Am on the search for a new dressage saddle. Am about to have a WOW saddle demo, but am interested in any make as long as it is good. Anyone found a great dressage saddle they'd recommend? Price not important - not that I'm rolling in it you understand! - just wish to spend what it takes to get something really good as horse has finally stopped growing and I want something that will last.

Needs to have a deep seat and, ideally, flair. Very bouncy trot and huge canter so something that puts me in position and locks me there!
The only saddle I have tried that I like so far is the Ideal Jessica.
Any recommendations?

Well I've just ordered an Albion K2 which I really loved riding in but its going to take 6 weeks as my stupid pony falls inbetween the sizes!

I had a Bates before that which was also comfy but I believe they have changed them all now and I haven't ridden in the new ones.

Well ive got an Albion SLK Ultima which is lush. It depends whether you like large knee blocks, deep seat etc as to what saddle you will like.

My other dressage saddle for my other horse is an Ideal Crown Dressage. Its pretty much identical to the Albion, £1000 cheaper and much comfier imo!!!!!

I really like the look of the Albion SLK Ultima. If you don't mind me asking, are you tall? I'm 5ft 11" and long between my hip and knee so I find some dressage saddles don't suit me - even if they suit my horse! Finding something that ticks all the boxes is a nightmare...........

I've got the albion platinum and I've found it fantastic. My horse is very bouncy in trot and it has a lovely deep seat and nice knee rolls to keep you firmly in place. My instructor also has the Albion SLK ultima which I've sat in and is also lovely. I used to have a Harry Dabbs saddle (now Jaguar I believe) for many years which I also liked a lot.

I've got an albion k2 dressage and a farrington dressage; personally i prefer the farrington as it has a deep seet and big knee rolls that really hold you in place! The k2 is shallower and although lovely doesnt hold me as much.
Think it was about £850 new so fairly reasonable.

im 6ft with a 35inch inside leg, so you could say im tall

heres me in the albion:

And me in my other saddle (Ideal Crown Dressage) - as you can see they are pretty much identical!

Wow, fab pic! Your horse looks like he has a pretty big shoulder too? Mine is a warmblood, the old chunky type as opposed to the finer ones now bred. He has a massive shoulder and huges paces. Restricted in a GP. Tried an Albion last year, can't remember whether it was a dressage or GP but was second hand and could have been a K2. Didn't like it much anyway, suited him, but I felt tipped forward. The Ultima looks better. And, hopefully, my boy has stopped seesawing up and down.
Does yours have flair?

Both mine have big shoulders, the grey (hes only rising 6) is 17'3 and has a massive shouler. my bay is very well built and very 'large' in front. My Ideal i find comfier than the albion. It dosent have flair. Its an ultima narrow, as im very skinny the narrow seat suited me better.

Imho, it depends not only on your preference, but also what feels right on the particular horse. I love Albions, but no matter how hard I tried, they were totally wrong for my horse

. Would highly recommend the Prestige saddles personally for very big moving horse, really deep seat - the minute I sat in one, I felt like I had found home

. But then I couldn't get on with the Ideals, so if you like those, you may not like the Prestige. I would ask for a saddler/saddlers to come out with a good selection and try lots - its a lot of money and you want to make sure you definitely have the best. Just a thought, but have you asked your instructor for recommendations? Mine did help with the 'type' required which she thought suitable for me and him.

I have a Frank Baines Eclipse, superb saddle, deep seat but knee rolls not too huge. Lovely!
Mum has a Black Country Eden, also very supportive but not quite as deep seated - very comfy though.

Hi,
How are you and Ben?
Is it Carolyn who is doing your WOW demo? You are welcome to come and have a sit in Jen's saddle too if you want to try a WOW.
I see a For Sale sign is up at Red Rose - hope everything is OK.

I've got a Heather Moffatt - made to measure for £800. It's got French panels which give a lot of freedom for big shoulders.

I have a WOW Dressage Extra Deep seat, with conventional Flaps. On my Chunky type WB with huge shoulders. I find it fantastic. Had ridden with Cair previous so i was used to riding with air when i changed to my WOW.

I tried Albion, Ideal & a Barnsby Plus a Treelees before a WOW.

Fab pic's PG!

I must admit that I do like the Isabell Werth but I am now the proud owner of the new Anky Salinero and i love it. On the inside cover of this months BD magazine!!
