Is there such a saddle that I can change myself to fit both?

Cob is in a wintec wide, and TB in a medium thorowgood at widest.

I would prefer a synthetic, purely because I don't think you can get easy change leather ones...

Am I fighting a lost cause here? I really don't have the money to buy them one each...

I was thinking wintec Isabella second hand... Seen one for £200 with the easy change gullet system...

Are the gullets diverse enough for me to have the saddle fit both horses?

How wide is your cob? Just a "wide"? If so, you could maybe get away with the Wintec 500 dressage? The gullet can be changed easily (I think wide is as much as it is meant to go). They're super comfy and my horse loves his so much that I ride in it 90% of the time at home! Doesnt take long to change the gullet, although saying that it depends how often you'd change it - wouldnt fancy changing it daily!

Yup you can get leather ones... Bates are the maker of wintec and they make a good choice of leather saddles with the same easy change gullet. BUT its not just the width at the front that has to fit its the overall shape of the saddle so you still may find that one doesnt fit all!

Finding a saddle which can have the gullet's changed for each horse is no problem, although the long term practicalities on the wear of the saddles and the screws, etc. to have them being changed so often would probably not be good.
The overall fit of the saddle wouldn't be so easy, TB tend to have less condition along their spine and cobs have too much. As a result, a lot of TB's have 'Thoroughbred' panels in their saddles to accomodate for their shape and cobs thus have very flat saddles. Personally, considering the vast difference in the two shapes, I wouldn't try to accomodate these two different types of horses with the one saddle as the overall shape will be so different.

A one off would be fine but long term it could end up costing you more money in back problems, etc. due to ill fitting saddle, than it would to get two reasonably inexpensive but fitting saddles.
