Hi all - just wondering if anyone can recommend a dressage saddle which is good if you have short legs? Horse is short-backed TB with fairly high withers so one with a cut-back would also be needed..

Thanks!

Have you considered one of the VSD saddles on the market at the moment? Wintec do an OK synthetic one but plenty of companies do leather too.

If you find something you really like but it is too long you could always ask the manufacturer to put shorter flaps on especially for you. I have a stumpy friend who has to do this with all hers.

Depends on your budget.

If you are looking for a synthetic saddle, I would go for the Thorowgood as it has a cut back head which is ideal for high withers. Wintecs also fit TBs - I presume your TBx is quite TB-y?

If you want to have one "tailor made" i.e change length of flaps etc then I would get a Saddle Company saddle (but then I am a bit biased!). Almost every feature of a SC saddle can be changed - I definitely think the saddle needs to fit the horse but I also think it needs to fit the rider. Consequently for my dressage version I had the girth straps moved and the flaps changed (I also have short legs). If you get a certified SC fitter out to template they can make all these changes before the saddle is made. It saves a lot of time and money trying to get another saddle adjusted!

I'm 5 foot and Ralphs 16.2, I've got an Albion VSD in dark brown and use it for dressage and showing, works a treat. I'm not riding at the mo and my dressage instructor is riding for me, he is loving it too
