I'm looking for a dressage saddle for my horses but I am on a budget and was looking to get some opinions...

It will only be used for schooling once a week or so and if we ever make it to any competitions so I'm not really willing to pay a fortune, I have just sold a lovely Passier that fitted my horse well but was too small for me and I doubt I'll find another one of them with my budget, so...

Wintec and Thorowgood dressage saddles - any good? Used Wintecs before on my horses and they were an ok fit but not spectacular (horses are both high withered Tbs) but it fitted my mare well enough. I know Thorowgood do a TB saddle with a drop panel which will probably fit a lot better - are their dressage saddles any good?

Are there any other brands of saddle which seem to fit TBs really well that I could look out for second hand...?

Thanks!!

i just brought a county dressage saddle for a very good price on ebay for a very narrow tb my trainer uses them on hers too so there well worth looking at

I was not a synthetic fan, but due to limited funds and broken leather saddle i bought a Wintec 500 and i love it, its not a dressage saddle though, but they do a wintec 500 dressage saddle too, if i ever have any money i would like to get one to add to my GP.

Wintec saddles don't fit my TB as the tree just isn't the right shape for the shape of his back. Not sure what Thorowgood ones are like, but the TB dressage is probably worth a look.

I've just splashed out on an Albion SLK dressage saddle for my TB, even second hand it was still over my budget but worth every penny

I have found a TB Thorowgood Dressage on Ebay, brand new though, for well under budget so will take a chance on that (had a Thorowgood many years ago and it was a good saddle)... It all measures up and has the dropped panels that I need. If it doesnt work I'll sell it on and save some more pennies for something a bit nicer...

Thanks....!

I *think* that thoroughgood have just brought out these new dressage saddles that scored top marks in all the pressure testing, and they are easily adjustable etc. something like £500 new I think.

If you get a wintec isabell in cair they are better at adjusting to fit the high wither (my mare is a dodgy shape and it fits ALOT better than the nasty thorowgood one..plus the isabell is VERY comfy!)

There is nothing nasty about the new thorowgood T6 dressage saddle and they also come in a high wither model for less than £450 and as OB says they have had extreemly good results from the pliance pressure testing system. I would rate these over the wintec any day. As a saddle fitter myself I have chosen to stock Thorowgood as their range suits a wider variety of horses (IMO)
