I went to my last dressage of the year on Saturday
What will I do with my weekends until February????????
I'd said to a friend that I'd take her and her boy along with us as she has no transport of her own and she helps me out with my two a lot. This is not a good situation for Grumpy Boy though as he can be nappy and I normally take him to shows on his own to avoid any naughtiness. However, my friend really helps me out and I still remember how frustrating it was before I had my lorry and had to watch everyone else go off to stuff while I was stuck at home.
The weather was terrible, really windy and because the show organisers were running the novice last, it was dark when we arrived. GB had a face on as soon as he came off the lorry and when his chum went of to warm up without him (we had vastly different times) I could see he was winding himself up for a 'toys out of the pram' moment.
When I eventually went off to warm him up, he was not a happy bunny; tail swishing, totally behind the leg etc. Two minutes into the warm up arena, he kicks off with a massive buck, stop, spin combination which is his party piece but I am more than ready for it and the little b****er find himself being booted around in a little circle until he is willingly going forward (normally 3 revolutions as he is quite lazy). He then warmed in fantastically, really engaged and elevated mostly becasue he was very angry.
We went in for the first test, N30 and he went quite well apart from the first canter change across the diagonal where he took it apon himself to do a flying change rather than come back to trot so I got a 3. Despite this we were 2nd scoring 65.3%.
Warming up for the second test he thankfully didn't try any funny business but he still felt p1ssed off with me for making him leave his chum and do some work. The second test, N25 rode much better as although he was still angry he let me ride him more and we won the class scoring 68% his best score to date for novice.
It's a difficult balancing act with him. If he goes somewhere on his own he is beautifully behaved but sometimes feels a bit flat in the tests. Take him with a friend and he is invariably naughty but the quality of his work is so much better.
