Im currently waiting for the vet to get back to me so we can decide what the next step is with Gin. She damaged her sacroiliac in June and shes still having problems in that area. Shes had 2 injections in that time but now were thinking there might be more damage in that area than we first thought.

I have discussed in detail with my vet the possibility of Gin having a foal if she has to have time off. Ive had the physio to see her this morning and whilst there she spoke to the vet who said she was going to ring me, physio got the impression that the vet was going to say time off.

So I have been looking at Stallions for Gin just incase.

Gin is 15.2hh, 13 this year, unregistered Dutch Warmblood, was competing elementary has the potential to go higher. She was imported from Holland but came with no papers. As far as im aware it will be her first foal so we would be using chilled AI. We dont want a natural covering due to the problems in her back.
I love her stamp but she doesnt have the best hind legs and doesnt always like to use them. Shes fantastic to handle on the ground but is spooky and a bit of a hot head when ridden.

I would like a stallion with a good temperament and a good hindleg to compensate for Gins weak areas.

I seem to have fallen for Benetton Dream, but I believe he is abroad and so I believe he is off the list. (This will be mine and her first foal so were learning as we go along.)

I really like Dimaggio but a post I read on here put me off and I would prefer a bay foal to a chestnut. I have just been looking at Millenium as he looks to have a nice stamp. I saw him years ago but cant remember what he was like. Another one was Catherston Springsteen but again hes chestnut, and Dubloon who is very local to me and who I have seen grow up but is also chesnut.

So im open to suggestions. The foal will be bred with me in mind but will need to be saleable as I will have 3 horses next year and one may have to go.

I dont have any confo shots of Gin unfortunatley.

Ditto, I know a number of Dimaggios and they are allvery successful and have been very easy to produce

If you are going down the AI route then you can consider horses both in the Uk and in mainland Europe. Of course it would be nice to stick to a British based stallion

but you really will have a massive selection to choose from

I would advise going along to the PHSP stallion parade on 14th Feb at Hartbury to see a good number of dressage stallions in one location

What about MFS Vision? His foals all look to be fabulous movers. His breeding is Flemmingh x Ferro (dam sire) and available at a great price just now. More info here.

My friend has a beautiful gelding by Demonstrator, more info here.

Thanks, I originally thought I you could you stallions from abroad if using AI but my vet made out that I wouldnt be able to use chilled and I would have to use frozen. Or maybe it was just me that wasnt listening properly.

I did look at Don Ricoss and I do like him, but I ruled him out due to being abroad.

Speak to your vet both BD and DR are chilled semen and should be no problem for a competent stud vet

I second Millenium! He retired to stud very late (at the end of his career at 18 I believe) and so his stock are only 2 at the oldest I believe but they are VERY nice!

Have a look at Pape stallions http://www.hanoverian-stallions-pape.de/pageID_5514662.html . My OH has a yearling cold by Scolari, a young stallion they have. He's a stunning stallion and the colt is fab - gained a 1st premium as a dressage foal last year. I've just bought a 2 1/2 yr old by Del Piero (also standing at the same stud) out of a mare that is full sister to Demonstrator. She's quite small but very well put together, moves well, very showy. My OH has also got a fab coming 4 yr old by Rousseau too - really smart, good mover but a little on the sharp side. I think their fees are quite good too - considering what some other big studs abroad are charging this year.

I might get laughed at for this - dressage is not my scene at all so apologies in advance but there's also Fulton. I know he's getting on a bit but he is fabulous in temperament - after watching EE's youngest daughter lead him across the yard on his way out to play (she was four I think, he could have splatted her big style but he just kept in step with her all across the yard; yes, she was supervised for the worrywarts!) and he has produced some very good horses too. If your mare was to go to the stud then she would have the best of care with Edward.

Astonish - Henriette Andersen's Dutch stallion is standing for the first time this year. He is an International Grand Prix horse and is graded AES I believe.
He can be seen at Furlong Farm, Nether Westcote, Oxon.

MFH_09, I have seen some very nice horses by Fulton but I never thought about using him. Its definately something I will look in to.

Ive always liked Astonish and am I right in thinking hes quite small too?

Hi there just to throw another stallion consideration into the pot but have you seen T.Movistar? I have a 15.2 Tbx warmblood mare in foal to him this year. I needed a stronger hind leg action and a good shoulder. He fit my criteria perfectly and complements my mare nicely. I couldn't guarantee no chestnut as he is Jazz (chestnut!) x Chronos (trek). Typically jazz he has good action through the hind limb. He has a very trainable temperament and is doing very well competitively with Carl Hester. He stands at 16.1 so not over big (although jazz and most of his offspring are 17hh plus so some bigger genes there!) Good luck whoever you choose, and yes if you have a good stud vet you can have chilled ai from abroad. NB. check out the stud terms as most stud farms from abroad only offer 50% refund if not in foal.

Sorry but another stallion you could look at is Rubin star N see link http://www.romannostud.co.uk/perf_stal.htm

oh thats good to know i have a scolari born this year and had a san remo who is stunning (but liver chestnut) from last year x

We have a Don Ricoss weanling, he is an absolute angel. As gorgeous as they come! I wouldnt let Don Ricoss being abroad put you off as Cheryl at Flax Lion makes sure everything goes so smoothly, it is as easy as having semen from GB!!! I would recommend any of her stallions!!
