hi all, i am currently in australia backpacking, - been away since november, my mum has been looking after my horses, and recently her friend rode my tb x irish draught gelding in his first ever dressage test a pre lim , we have had him for 2 years , had never done anything on the flat in his life just been hacked and generally wasted, i started doing a few dressage clinics and leesons with him just before i left to travel but have mainly been jumping/hunting him, my mums friend has been taking him to these clinics whilst i have been away, and rode him in the test last week , they got 58% , is this ok for a first ever test on a novice horse? my mum said he did everything he was asked to do , nice and quietly , on all the right legs etc just wasnt carrying himself as well as others that were there, am hoping to carry on with his dressage when i get home, what do people think of this as a first outing?

Considering he has had only a little flatwork schooling, 58% is excellent for the first time out. Just as a comparison for you, my first ever W&T test was I believe 38% on a very naughty horse!

When you return from your backpacking, we expect to see lots of posts from you in CR
