Dressage to music- we qualified!

We did our first affiliated dressage to music (and only our second attempt ever) on Saturday. It was quite scary actually as I’d only managed to run through it once actually on the horse in the correct sized arena so I was pooping my pants that the transitions would be in the wrong places.

However, it all went well apart from the final canter to trot transition where the music overran and I had to keep cantering past the correct marker. The final trot section was complete improvisation but we somehow ended up at G at the right time. We scored 68.03% and finished second, only 0.5 mark behind the winner.

So we have qualified for the regional finals! The judge said lots of nice things and said she thought my canter music was particularly appropriate. It was the Muppet Show Theme. I’m not sure if she meant I was a muppet or the horse was.

Next month the plan is to have a go with at an elementary music qualifier once I get my music sorted out.

Well done that's a great score! And it's made me feel a lot better - I've have my first freestyle class in 2 weeks and the music isn't ready yet! But if you got that score with only one run through there is hope for me!

Congrats. Wish we could do Music but with only a small arena and no music equipment it would just be too difficult.

I love the music, its so much fun to watch.

What you need is Dressage Diva software (£19.99 from Amazon). I bought it and was a bit skeptical but it is amazing. You put in your horses bpm for all three paces, choose a floorplan by clicking and the different elements, circles, changes of rein etc and then you get to see a computer generated horse riding through it at your horse's pace. Then you use this to fit your music to (as mp3 files), you can adjust the speed and blend it together etc.

I was really dubious but I put it together on the PC and when I ran through it with my horse the transitions were exactly where the computer horse did them. On actual day of the test I was a bit over-enthusiastic with the medium canter so my last trot was a bit out, but that was totally my fault.

I think as long as you have your horses bpm correct you could do the whole thing on the computer and never actual ride through it until the test day.

I must admit that I've become totally addicted to DTM! It's verging on slight mania if I'm truely honest but it's such great fun.

My chap loves to go 'dancing'! I did my first Elementary music qualifier at the weekend after putting my music together the night before.... winging it and hoping for the best! Coming down the centre line to the final halt I look up and the judge and writer were in fits of laughter - speaking to them later they said they had been thoroughly entertained by the music choice and my horse's interpretation of the music! I think it was his signature tune that did it - Tiger Feet..... Anyway, for a first attempt we came first with over 67% and qualified!
