Well Bud has proven jumping is his forte, but i would really like to persuade him dressage is also a possibility!!! I get on well with my current trainer we always have a good lesson and Bud does go ok some of the time in schooling sessions but we keep having issues and i think it would be nice to go to another trainer to see what they think of Bud and what work they suggest etc etc
I just don't want my eventing season to be let down by his dressage.... feeling quite upset and despondent about it all atm.... i work really hard but sometimes i am not sure it is worth it and maybe he should just be a showjumper

So can anyone suggest an excellent dressage trainer, not to far from the midlands that may enlighten me and Bud and help us!!!!

Thanks

The lady I sold my pony to is near Ashbourne, she is very very good with knowing who is who I will ask her for a recomendation. Ps They have the same problem with pony, so should be able to point you in the right direction. What area you in? Pm if you like.

You could try [removed]. My OH is trained by her for pure dressage. Beverly used to event at a very high level until a major accident stopped her so she is used to working with event horses and still trains a number of top eventers.

O right where is she based? Does she come out to you or does she have facilities - you go to her?? How much does she charge?? sounds promising.....

She is 3 miles from Keysoe.
You go to her.
Charges £40 per lesson (normally 45 minutes).
She has a very nice 20x60 outdoor and a small indoor if weather is really bad.

She has made dramatic improvements to my OH performance. Really worth giving a try.

Although Ive never tried her, always hear good things regarding Bev Brightman. Isnt she part of the EHOA trainers too?
I know she trains Nigel and Anne Taylor amounst others, including 4Faulters OH.

Theres plenty around your area so much of it will depend on whether you're willing to travel to them etc.

Lee Pearson is based at Beaverhall although Ive never had any experience of his training... He's meant to be rather tough though

Richard Davison is close to Uttoxeter but im 99% sure you'd need to take your horse to him and whether he is taking on more students is another matter. He is fabulous though.

Claire Ballantyne is based at Heart of England, although again, i have no personal experience of her.

If you were also looking into Derbyshire (dont know exactly where in Staffordshire you are), Sonia Webster is Bakewell area and very good.

Aside from that... look on the BD website under trainers?

many thanks, just looked on multimap and doesn't look too far could you PM her contact details if possible??? and i shall have a chat to mum about it later.

Anyone had a lesson with Richard or Gillian Davidson?? they are on the doorstep but not sure if will look down noses at little Budsie??

I have heard from a friend that Lee Pearson is not very sympathetic and dont know how to put this but 'doesnt leave pupils filled with confidence' which is half the battle. I would like the sound of Bev, I have rung pony lady and left a message for her to call me back, will let you know as soon as she does.

What about Patsy Bartram, cant remember the name of the village she is based in but fairly near Coton in the Elms if that is any good to you, she trains Ann-Marie Perry one of the Young Rider squad. PM me if you want her number.

wow thanks for all that! i have no facilities so would go to whereever really....

yes i had thought about Richard or his wife but wasn't sure what they were like. so will have to find out how much they charge!!!

had heard Lee was tough and don't want that route doesn't suit Bud....

friend mentioned H of E, so that could be an option.

Not heard of Sonia (i am on borders staff/derbys really)

I will print this post off and will have lots of options - just got work out who will get the best from us!!!

thats who i go to now!! she is brilliant i know been going there for years and years - but just thought a change might be good, have someone elses opinion. i love Patsy she is a good friend but i jsut feel someone else might freshen us up????

Richard is fabulous and very down to earth. As I mentioned in the other post, im quite sure you would need to travel to them but it sounds like they are close. He's got both indoor and outdoor schools. Certainly the indoor has mirrors... I *think* the outdoor one does but I never used it so can't say 100%

He also received a lot of classical training in his youth which is why I like him

He's much more horse aware than some of the trainers around. I'd highly recommend him!

Sonia is lovely too and again, classically trained in her youth. She did several years at Goodwood under John Lassetter and is a beautiful rider with again, a real focus on the horse.

She's based in ashford in the water which is about 5 minutes outside of Bakewell. Again - indoor and outdoor schools available i think.

She's a group 2 rider and heavily involved with BYRDS. She's also both Samantha Harrison (Manitu - dressage horse of the year) and Louise Justesens trainer.

Patsy Bartrum, has been recommended by pony lady, but she did say she was quite busy with BYRds etc.
She also recommended Chris White, says he is very good for giving people confidence and getting brilliant results from horses.
She also said to try Nicky Macpherson who trains with Richard, but she hasn't heard any rerports good or bad of her?

thank you - this is just the information i needed. do you have their contact details (richard and sonia) pm if u like and any idea of how much they charge??
just hope i won't get too embarressed if Bud is a total plonker!!!!!

thank you so much

i currently go to Patsy (who is wonderful) just fancy a change.

last time had a chnage 2-3yrs ago from patsy went to Chris, was gd but found little strict/hard could have been lazy wb horse i had tho!!

do you mean Kelly Mac?? not heard of Nicky....

good to know i am on the right track tho!!! i think i'm swaying towards Richard - if i can afford it!!!!
thanks again

Richard is absolutely brilliant! Not sure what hes like with a more novicey horse tho!
But he has a great sence of humour which come across in sessions!
Bev is also very good!
Have a look on the BD trainers database!
But if u get a chance to have a lesson with Richard. GO!!

brilliant thanks for that i will def get one booked!! it's not so much he's novicey he's just a plonker!!! looses concentration puts up a fight non submissive etc etc!! lets hope Richard has plenty humour the day i go!!!
thanks again

I train with Lee Pearson. Yes he is tough yes he doesnt mince his words but he is absolutely brilliant. I cant rate him highly enough. I have struggled to get on with trainers in the past and certainly have tried at least one of the staffordshire based ones mentioned on here with no success whatsover. I originally tried to contact the Davidsons however I received a short sharp response from them, essentially they wouldnt even let me book an evaluation session !!! I did question why they were on the BD trainers database if they didnt take on people!

As I said though I agree Lee is very tough and you have to be extremely committed to improve as he does expect you to give 110% but the improvements I have found in my mare are astounding.
