Dressage trainers near Warwick? anyone had/rate Roland Tong?

I watched Roland schooling ALL of his horses at Swallowfields the other day (friend was competing in 2 tests hours a part) and I really liked his style. He was very polite and talked to everyone aswell.

I agree with Christmas Derby he was riding in draw reins last competition I went to there and I was not impressed

My mate raves about him and has been doing very well with her novice mare but that said she always schools in some elastic bungee arrangement which puts me right off.

I really rate Millie Shand, she's near Stratford, has a 60x20 and is currently having it replaced, she's on the BD list of trainers/judges

So many good trainers in this area! But definitly a couple i wouldnt touch!
Paul is V good, espec if you've got a bit of a difficult/naughty horse!
Eric Thielguard is also in the area, as is Gareth, and Peter S isnt a million miles away! have a look in your BD trainers list!

having known roland for several years now,he does have his own style, which you may or may not like, but never the less has seen him win several(17 i believe) championships from regional to national titles and many young horse champs. He has not just done this with one horse but several, many of which,if not all,he has trained himself.
It takes a very brave rider to put themselves on the line,in front of several hundred to learn from a world reknowned trainer,as he did for the benefit not just of himself but for us all, aspiring dressage riders.
Roland is far from 'rough' he is effective and kind to all of his horses and pupils,he has a wealth of experience having trained young horses to advanced and consistently got good results with all of them, anyone thinking of having a lesson with him should,he teaches clinics from essex to hants, all of which are always full.
He has recently helped me tremendously and i as all my cliental do highly recomend him.

I can't comment on him as a dressage rider/trainer, as i've never seen him acting as such ... but i used to know him before he was a big dressage name, and find it hard to believe that he would ever be rough with anything!!!
Just my 2c worth.

O god, definitly. Couldnt say a bad word against him! Expect for the fact i always want to stroke his hair for some reason. :s dont ask!
Roland along with many trainers do things their own way, it works for some people and doesnt for others. But untill you've had a couple of lessons with him, you wont know whether you like him and vica versa. One thing he wont do is get shitty if you say "mmm not sure this way is right for me, im going to try someone else!"
We are very lucky here, in the sence we have alot of decent trainers.
Good luck with your search for the righ one.

Roland Tong is without doubt one of the most dedicated & passionate trainers out there today. He is not afraid to help anyone with a 100% committment to their riding & their horse. How anyone can say he is rough with his horses is beyond me. I employed him when he was 16yrs old and he stood way above the other interviewees in every aspect, his manner (he is very humble actually when you GET to know him), kind, generous, warm & has a fantastic sense of humour, one quality which is absolutely essential if you want to train horses. His talent is exceptional and was noted back then in 1997, in ten years he has absorbed all the 'constructive criticism' given to him by all the top trainers he has had the opportunity to ride for and learn from, and in my opinion this had made him one of the most effective rider/trainers out there today. Whether you know and love him, or don't know him but have a strong opinion of him, he is a trainer who will:-
1; be warm & sympathetic to you & your horses ability at the present time
2: do his best to 'enlighten' you in the correct way towards your riding thus improving your horse
AND MOST OF ALL:-
3: he won't loose interest in you no matter how inexperienced you are, this is a very rare quality and one which people should be grateful for.
I have never replied to any post on this forum, yet the comments I have read of late about Roland Tong have left a very bad taste in my mouth. As with any trainer, each session is different, TRY him, I assure you won't be disappointed, and your horse will be much happier which is the ultimate aim no matter what level you ride at.

CSYMolly on here trains with Roland, so she will be able to give you some more info if you PM her
