Hi

I’m starting out in BD. Have a tweed jacket and beige breeches. GP saddle.

Should I wear my black numnah or get a white saddle pad?

Not sure how white pad will look with beige breeches?

Many thanks

We usually wear white with our tweed outfits and they look fine, I have seen a few with cream pads that look very smart on the right horse, black is ok but rarely looks as smart as a light coloured one.

I used to use a cream one with tweed but my bridle had cream padding the browband and my gloves are cream so it all matched nicely. I now have a very light dove grey saddlecloth and that looks OK too.

I use a brown sheepskin numnah under my brown saddle, it is nice and neat and close cut.

If I had a black saddle I would use a black numnah

Either would be fine, tbh I'd just use what you have, it's a lot more relaxed than it used to be and any conservative coloured numnah is acceptable. Have a lovely time and enjoy yourself.

For quite a while I did BD with a black saddle cloth. Perfectly BD legal and I rather liked being a bit different. If you look at the BD rulebook it'll say what is acceptable.
