I'm looking to do a bit of local showing this year & some low level dressage. I have a Wintec saddle for everyday use so am looking to buy a new saddle for Showing/Dressage. The problem I have is that I can't afford to buy a show saddle AND a dressage saddle, and to be honest there isn't much point if we are only doing low level stuff.

So, my questions are:

Do I go for a dressage saddle with a flatter seat & minimal knee rolls or do I get a straight cut show saddle.?

Which one would be easier to use in the other discipline.?

If I was to go for a dressage saddle, I would get the girth straps shortened as my boy refuses to go in a short girth. Also whichever one I go for would have to be brown (for showing) but would this be okay for low level dressage.?

Thanks In Advance :) xx

I use my show saddle for dressage :) At the lower levels I don't really think a dressage saddke gives you much of an advantage :) no reason you could use your wintec- people have competed to quite serious levels in GPs and lots of eventers dressage in a jump saddle :)

I use my show saddle for dressage :) I think I would feel more out of place in a show ring with a dressage saddle than vice versa.

I do everything, even jump in a show saddle. A friend of mine does ODE's and hunter trials in a show saddle!

I would go for a show saddle simply because a dressage saddle will be frowned upon in a show ring, whereas a show saddle won't in dressage

Thanks Everyone. Show saddle it is.. My wintec is synthetic & I feel leather would be a better 'look' :)

I've seen this one for sale, it has a serge fitted. What are your opinions.?

I am currently doing this! Evented a few weekends ago in my show saddle as its all I have.. Have to say though, I am getting a jump saddle asap as its hard work staying on board a green pony who throws in some massive baby jumps when you have nothing to support you!

The opinion could only be based on the quality of the brand which I can't see, and whether it fits your horse :).

I show my highland occasionally and use my dressage saddle. It's a Black Country Eloquence, so a fairly "plain" looking saddle very similar to the one pictured, but had the straps made short so I use a normal girth with it - plain brown leather girth suitable for showing. It looks fine with a brown shaped numnah or with a white dressage square, so does both jones very well at the level we compete at.
