Dressage! What to wear??

Going to my first small local dressage competition in a couple of weeks. Only Intro tests to start with. Black jacket or tweed jacket? Stock or tie? Do I need to carry a stick? Have one in the tack room Ha! never had need to use it or carry it. Any other dress tips would be good Thanks.
 
I compete at Dressage Ireland but I assume there isn't much difference.

Colour of jacket doesn't matter. Make sure you have gloves and it doesn't matter with a stick. My old mare was never competed with a stick. Horses are always platted.

Most importantly have a good time :)

Am toying with the idea of taking a NF to an intro competition. Only if we beat our napping demons!

Would he need his mane plaited? Would you be able to ride in short boots or would I need long ones?

When I did unaff prelim in my youth, I used to wear a black jacket, pale jods, dark gloves short boots with clips and a white shirt and tie. Assume all this would be correct still?
 
My rules list only says that light coloured gloves should be worn, I always thought it was black jackets but looking through the pics of similar comp last year some were wearing tweed.
 
Tweed, Navy, Black or any dark coloured jackets are fine at lower levels, pale gloves are 'prefered' though again at lower levels as long as you are wearing gloves you should be OK.

If you are a junior short boots and clips area acceptable though again at lower levels smart short boots and smart chaps are acceptable too.

Ties or stocks are acceptable at lower levels too, I would go with what you have :)

Oh Karran, I am taking my mare to help beat her demons, I am sure we will be last and maybe possibly banned from going back! Ha! Ha! But she's 15 and very green and I'm going for experience and to get her out to see the big wide world after spending 9 years before I got her as a pet!! I will be very happy if I stay on her, she doesn't kick anyone and we come home safe together and still smiling!! lol

Haha! Where are you based? We can compete between us to see who gets the worst score! My share pony is 5 and this is my plan too, do some bumbling about so he can get used to parties.

Only last time I rode, we had a temper tantrum as soon as I rode him through the gate. My first aim is to get through a ride with all four feet on the ground and then we'll decide if we can risk being the "special" ones. :rolleyes:

Light coloured gloves, no rubber bit rings, hat with harness, no boots/bandages in the competition arena, plait if you can, stick does not have to be carried - these arebthe basic rules. Good luck and enjoy

Karran: We always make a show of ourselves!!!! Bucking in the collecting ring, (just to show she can!) Going round the outdoor school in our jumping lesson at 100 miles an hour doing motorbike corners (she loves jumping!) with my instructor yelling at me to have some control and me replying I'm *********g trying. One hour flatwork lesson (£40) in indoor school with 40 mins to settle her and stop her freaking out at the mirrors. We've done it all Ha! Ha! But who cares I love her to bits and am used to her funny ways.. When she's good, she's brilliant but she has Attitude!!! Wouldn't be without her she's my best friend.. You'd probably be embarrassed to go to an event with me. Hee!

If it helps, I took my 5 yr old mare to her first comp a few weeks back. I was petrified! I said I didn't mind if we scored zero for everything, as long as we got there (10 min hack), did the test, and got back, without any unplanned dismounts or causing any damage. :p:)
Well, she was pretty well behaved and we came 15th out of 16 so I was thrilled, and had some nice comments. So go for it and let us know how you get on.
I wore a blue tweed jacket, with pale blue/white checked shirt and navy tie, and cream jods, all of which I used to wear for showing. I prefer short boots, so bought some nice smooth leather half chaps, so they looked like long boots. Black schooling whip, white gloves, navy velvet hat and hairnet. Felt very posh.

Ha! Ha! Good effort is not normally a word I hear much, usually Fizzy! Stroppy!, Don't let her get away with that! Cheeky! etc, Had dressage mock test in a lesson a couple of weeks ago. Got 56 out of 120? Got a 2 for one move! Think that was when the big green monster allegedly jumped out from behind the fence Ha! We can but try.. Good job I'm not competitive, and I love her, Hee!
