sorry, no..but I think I have seen it so there must be a supplier. I have just made up nettle tea for mine before now with a bag from the supermarket/health food shop..in summer i just cut and wilt nettles before putting boiling water over them and again making a tea.
Is this as a supplement or to deal with allergies?
The company are local to me and supply all over the country. They do many herbal supplements, mostly these contain many different herbs but they will supply all herbs seperatley if you ring them up. I've ordered just nettle from them before.
pm me if the link doesn't work and i'll send you their details.
Last year I cut some nettles amd left them to wilt to feed to my horse later as she loves them but my friends horse got hold of them and ate them, she took an allergic reaction and came out in hives all over her body and her head became really swollen, it was horrible, the vet gave her something for it but can't remember what. Have you heard of any other horse having this type of reaction from nettles?
K_T I have seen a horse collapse with nettle allergy, to the extent I was convinced it was going to die, It need anti histamine and steroids to recover. Very sudden, very scary..the horse staggered as if it was drunk and kept collapsing and then trying to wobble up again until it finally passed out..the injections worked almost instantly so that we could walk it up the road to the yard.
As a homeopathic remedy nettle tea can work to reduce the effects of nettle allergy by introducing a very tiny amount of the allergen into the body, which was what motivated my question
Oh how awful, my friends horse was also a bit wobbly on her feet. Glad the vet got there quickly. I think it was an antihistamine that he gave her now that you mention it. Do you think she will always be allergic or could her allergy be reduced by giving her some of the tea?
That would be a potentially dangerous experiment. If you know the horse already had an acute response to nettles you could induce a serious collapse..so I would say only under strict medical supervision or in consultation with the vet
Dobson and Horrell do a nettle supplement. Ring their helpline, as the website doesnt show everything.
When I can get hold of them I just cut fresh nettles and leave them a day or so then chop up in my boys feed. His legs were constantly filling when he stood in over night but (touch wood!) have not done so since I started this. And no reactions either.
Nettle is a blood purifier and helps with circulation. Hope this helps.
