Hello All,

Have had a poorly horse since Mon morning. She has bad skin allergies and when I went to do her mon morning was galloping around covered in hives, shaking from head to toe and obviously very upset.

She has had steroids, bute, another painkiller from vet and ended up having to have her sedated. She had got herself in a right state. I have got all of that semi-under control now, but she hasn't drunk from a bucket since Monday morning. She has been having soaked hay, wet feeds, a very soggy small sugar beet feed at lunchtime and obviously there is quite a lot of water on the grass in the morning which she is eating.

She has 3 different types of buckets in the field, filled up from different hoses, but all of which she normally drinks from. She won't drink sugar beet water/apple juice etc.

She won't usually drink at shows and exciting places so i think it is stress which is causing this (Luckily she was a lot calmer this morning).

If i pinch her skin it goes straight back to normal and doesn't stay raised so she isn't seriously dehydrated. Going to call the vet again at lunch to keep her updated, but is there enough water content in the above to keep a horse normally hydrated? Or any other ides to get her to drink?

When she has had steroids before she normally drinks more not less. She isn't a big drinker usually when not ridden but would drink more than this.

Thanks

Just keep doing what you are doing, offer her lots of different water to drink options.

IF she is thirsty she will drink :)
