This morning when I went to give my horse his haynet after turning him out (he is in a small paddock on his own as he has a bone chip) I noticed he was dripping from his willy

didnt notice anything untoward when I had a careful poke, but just wondered if anyone has experienced this before?

Ive only noticed him like it once before which was when we got back from a show and he was holding himself in the trailer (wont wee on the floor unless he really has to!)

I know hes not holding himself in his paddock as I have seen him wee lots and its got a woodchip surface so no splashes!!

Any ideas what could be causing it? Vet is out next week for xrays again so can ask him then if hes still like it

I don't know but it might be worth mentioning it to the vet as you say. Are you sure he had not just had a wee beforehand?

Our old horse dripped from his willy but it was reddish and when we had it checked he had cancer there. Well worth a check with your vet just to make sure. Our old boy was 36 so we decided against treatment as the vet said it was quite advanced by then. Hope it turns out to be nothing for you and him.

well hes only 7 and fit and healthy in all other respects so hopefully its nothing serious. Its clear, just wee it may be (hopefully) that he had just had a wee and not 'wiped' properly!!

I dont mean to alarm you but a friend of mine had a horse that had a dripping willy and unfortunately it was cancer.

It's worth mentioning to you your vet just for piece of mind

Was his stable bedding as wet as normal? It might be something as simple as some disturbance (rats??) making him a bit tense overnight and he didn't wee in the box.

Did he continue to drip?
I've twice seen persistent leaking of urine - one was a pony which managed to get caught in a river (he disappeared and it took two days to find him). His bladder was dreadfully distended as he couldn't brace himself to wee stuck in deep mud.) He returned to normal in a couple of days.

The other was a pont who had a bladder stone - it was HUGE - about the size of a tennis ball. Weeing was painful for him as the stone got blocked - so he didn't - so he dribbled. That required surgery to remove the stone and he made a full recovery. So no need to panic yet.

BUT - if he leaks any more, if water consumption drops - or increases, if he seems unconfortable or colicky, or if he develops a temperature, then vet sooner rather than later!

If you see him leaking again, I would try and catch a sample in a CLEAN jar and get it to the vet pronto - it might be an infection
