Drivers - What van to move carriage?

Hello H&H types - firstly, thanks for welcoming me to your little patch of the web.

Now, down to brass tacks. I've just brought a 2nd hand marathon carriage for pony & I to strut our funky stuff in when we finally get around to getting a box & going to events. Meantime though, transport is a problem & now I'm in the position of having to pick up said carriage from 100 miles away & so comes the process of trying to hire a van to transport it.

I'm tempted to hire a luton box van with a tail lift to move it that way, but that said I'm open to anyone who says that it should fit in something smaller. Length isnt the worry, its height & width. Numpty here forgot to measure the thing!

Could you ask them to measure it for you? I know some of the smaller/ pony size ones will fit in a transit or a double horse trailer. And I knew someone who had a flat bed trailer & tarpaulin for one.
 
When I sold my four wheeler it was loaded onto a little 'low loader' aluminium trailer - it went on with about 1/2 an inch to spare all round and was strapped on and did about 50 miles on the motorway safely. I transported it in an Ifor trailer (partitions out obviously) with the shafts sticking out the ramp. Either of those an option? Or a 3.5T horsebox( if you can't drive a 7.5T lorry) which will have a ramp and should be tall enough for the shafts?

The other thing is that it is often easy to remove the shafts and wheels which means that a hightop transit should take it with a bit of juggling...can you tell that I've done the same as you? :D
 
Thanks both - yes the shafts are coming off, really easy - usual bolts affair. Height should be alright I *think* in a hi-top version of a Transit. Its just those pesky "sticky in" wheel arches in the van which could be a pain.

Should really have asked / measured it myself, such an airhead! Guy has gone on his hollies now for a fortnight & I'm picking it up on Saturday from his son who isnt into our world much, worth trying to ring I guess!

You wouldnt believe my job involves planning major events would you...such oversight!
 
I have a 4 wheeled Jack Clyne marathon vehicle and it fits into a lwb transit van with a couple of inches either side.
It is also pretty light so me and my sister managed to lift it up the large step to get it into the van.
 
I think the biggest spanner will be the one driving :)

In all seriousness folks, thanks so much. All systems go, ratchet straps & chocks at the ready, plus tools, string, padding material & blind optimism.

Anyone hears of any strange motorway closures at the weekend, blame me!
