Does anyone else ever get home and suddenly think "did I turn off the light/ properly shut the stable door?"

Had this just now, thought I don't think I turned his stable light off so just drove all the way back as knew the more I tried to convince myself I had done so, the more I feel I haven't. I also couldn't remember physically doing it either

Got up the yard- of course its off!!!

However I almost always have to go back as I know I'll stay awake thinking about it and if I haven't done it = angry yo!

Worst is when it gets to when it happens when you're lying in bed and it's too late to go back!

Yes, sometimes I have actually forgotten something and sometimes I’ve not. I’ve done a u-turn a few times to return to the yard.

I’m a past master at leaving the hay soaking bucket filling. The other day I forgot to put an overnight hay-net in one of my horses stable and my friend text me and said “is it your haynet by the hose” ?. Luckily she put it in for me otherwise I’d have had one mad ginger the next morning! And if I’d remembered later a sleepless night.

I have to close gate to keep companion horse in smaller pen while I ride to keep him from killing himself or me. Suddenly alized at 10:30 pm the other night as I was brushing my teeth, I had not opened gate again when I put riding horse back. Which meant they were in pen with water trough but locked out of hay!

Fortunately they live at home with me so that was quickly remedied.

When I used to board and helped with chores to reduce costs, I would often suddenly stop whatever I was doing (hours later) because of the paralyzing fear I had left hose running.

Found myself googling the likelihood of a fire caused by leaving the stable block light on... at that point I decided to just go back to the yard and see if I left it on or not (obviously it was off).

A really, lovely but slightly dippy friend of mine received a phone call around. Midnight, when she answered all she had was heavy breathing. She hung up. An hour later she got another call, also with just heavy breathing. After the third call she unplugged her phone. When she got to the yard the next day she realised that not only had she left the stable light on all night, but she had also let her mobile phone in the stable.
Her horse had called her home number a few times, obviously to ask her to come back and turn off the lights! ?
Don't worry, if you forget anything your house will let you know!

Yes I do this all the time so now I tell myself as I’m doing it in the hope it helps me realise I did it. Not sure if this is ocd or old age ?

Glad I’m not the only one this happens to, I get the sinking feeling most evenings....

Now have a check list before I go: “feed, Water, hay, rug, bed, light, kick bolt” - doesn’t always stop the feeling though!

Bad horse owner alert, although this was actually my daughter. I've had to go back on a few occasions to check small pony Peter's been turned back out after coming in for his tea because twice the poor little sod hasn't been. He's an uncomplaining little chap and seemed entirely unconcerned in the morning.

Yes all time! I either think I’ve forgotten to turn the tap off (which has happened quite a few times!) or forgotten to lock the gate. I’m ok as long as nobody phones or speaks to me when I’m locking up ?.

Not the yard but every week when I parked the wagon up i used to get home and panic that I had left the Digi card in.
Now I have three things and I make sure they are done consciously if that makes sense.
I find if I block everything out and concentrate on these three things they are committed to my memory.
Sounds daft but it works for me.
Pull the card, switch off fridge, switch off invertor.
Same thing if I'm disturbed during routine things like trailer changes or securing loads.
I go round and check everything again and sort of commit it to memory.

After having left the tap on for the field hose in the past I now have those charity wristband thingies for the water and the field electrics, which are looped around the tap or switch and put on while I’m using them. Yes, I sometimes go home still wearing them but then I can quickly return or phone one of the other liveries and ask them to deal with it.

Yes but i work very hard to push it from my mind having given it a moment to trace my steps in my mind and then thoroughly tell myself off for that behaviour. It is not healthy and can turn dangerous (hence how i know how to 'squash' the thoughts)

Yep. I have weird little routines I do. And I always do a last glance up the barn before I switch the light off to check doors are shut etc (even though I know they are as I’ve checked them) When our electricity went for 10 days after Christmas, it did not help my final check routine!

I’m the last at the farm most nights and I often get a text off another livery asking if they’ve turned their barn light off or shut their door. It’s obviously a horse person thing!

Over the years I've gone back numerous times to check I've linked the electric fence hook up - without it none of the fields get power! I also flooded the yard overnight leaving the hose running in a bucket - I remembered at 3am suddenly waking up & felt sick until I got there are 6am knowing what I'd done

Glad it's not just me!!

I've also worried about flooding the yard before!

I think each time I've gone back, whatever I thought wasn't off is/ his door is shut, so the possibilities are I've done it. But I just know the one time I don't go back, I won't have done it so always end up going back unless it's the middle of the night and I have to stay fretting

I also find the more I try and convince myself I've done it, the more I end up thinking I haven't as I can't CLEARLY remember doing it, which opens the possibility I haven't done it!

Some of the managers at the call centre I used to work at would lock it up I'd be a nightmare if I had that as there's a lot more that could go wrong if it wasn't locked up properly!
