I am fortununte to have had my licence long enough for me not to need to take an extra test to drive a lorry over 3.5 ton ie; anything up to 7.5 tonn. however am looking to get lorry and put frined on the insurance and i cant find out what the date was when this changed. have looked on direct.gov.uk and it says on there that you just need to be over 18 to diorve 3.5 ton -7.5 ton and passed teste before september 2009 which is not right. can anyone enlighten my brain????

Hi. You have to have passed your test before 1997 to drive anything over 3.5 tonne, any time after that and you have to take another test

That's wot i heard and have gone by.. hope this helps xxx

Hi There,

This applies to me, the law changed 1st Jan 1997 - 3 weeks before I passed my driving test.....arghhhhhh!
I have done my trailer test, now saving for HGV!
