Thanks.

I think you can, yes. You need a Category C1 entitlement to drive up to a 7.5 tonne lorry, and the minimum age to take the test to get this is 18, so you're fine.

If you want to drive over 7.5 tonnes, you need a HGV licence and the minimum age to do this is 21.

*wants a lorry*

I've got to do my LGV too - the only problem is it so so expensive! I have since found out though, that whilst I am saving to do the test, if you apply for your provisional (form D1 I think) and get your medical done you can then drive a 7.5t on "L" plates as long as you have an insured driver with you. Good idea to get more practice in before taking the test as well.

Im 19 and did my 7.5 ton test last year you will need to do a medical which is about £70 i think, then you can apply for ur provisional. This means you can drive a lorry upto 7.5tonnes with someone sitting beside you (you can even go on motorways). U then need 2 do ur theory then book training/test it was £100 a day for the training and i did 3days so very expensive!

If ur nearly 21 wherever you do ur training/test for it will prob suggest you do ur class 2 as its about the same price and you can obviously drive a bigger lorry they wanted me 2 do this but i wasnt old enough. I would do this if you can because even if your not goin 2 use it just now go might want to in the future and you would have 2 go through the test again! Best to talk to wherever you are goin to do your training first then apply for provisional.

when I did my test, I went for the class 2 option, as it costs no more, and does mean if ever I should need to drive an HGV lorry (over 7.5t) then I am covered.
Once you are in the lorry and you have got used to the dimensions of the lorry, it is no different to drive a car really. I really enjoyed doing my class 2 - and it is funny as the lorry drivers who are class 2 really look down on the 7.5t drivers!!

Do the class 2 if you are going to do it!! Its great!!
(I did my training with React driver training in reading - they were so helpful and friendly)

Was the gear stick inside or out side on the running board when you took your class 2 License. Come on get up to date. Its for this reason as from sept 2008 for bus drivers and 2009 for LGV drivers all professional drivers have to undertake CPC every 5 years or loose their license to driver LGV's or PSV's. As for the 21 lad wishing to take his C1 test. Take category C LGV test as you are 21 year old its the same test just heavier lorry.
