hi all. I have been round horses all my life and I've had a go at most things, I would now like to try driving but I have a few questions.
are there any laws or restrictions regarding driving on the road?
why do you need a driving bit can't you use a normal snaffle?
can you go bitless?
many thanks

I go with the same rules when driving as riding on the road, don't know if it's right!

You can drive in any bit you like.

You *can* drive bitless- I personally think its dangerous, I ride out and school in a hackamore and drive in a myler Liverpool. We've had a couple of 'eek' moments under harness and I wouldn't ever have wanted to be sat behind without a bit. You can't compete bitless at HDT or shows.

Carriages must have red reflectors on the rear. The rules of the road are the same as if you are driving a car.
