I'm traing my two shetlands to drive. Minstral has been ridden with a bitless bridle for a few years but is too strong in it now. He's very fussy with bits I'd tried a few! His teeth are fine etc. What bits have you found are good. Traditional Liverpool? Half spoons or butterfly? I borrowed a friend's Liverpool at 4 1/2" but the too cheeks dug him. I worry a 4 3/4 may be too long in the mouth. As soon as I put any bit in his mouth its head down try to get tounge over and mouth as wide as pos. I persevered for months when I started him to ride. Never had this prob before. Even lozege bits he gets his tounge over. Right size. Any higher in the mouth would be way too high.
Thanks.

Didn't realise there was a half Liverpool with a curved mouth as only come across straight. I'll take a look at that. Driving in a Pelham. Is that ok? Never thought of that.
