I currently have a Sabre Cordoba bridle which I'm very happy with, lovely quality. Problem is the noseband is a flash and my horse really doesn't seem to like it. If I take the flash strap off we're ok for a few days and then he starts opening his mouth and holding his head sideways and just b*ggering off. So, I'd like to try a drop noseband on him to see if he's happier in one. But, I can't seem to find any with cheek hangers both sides. Sabre don't (and won't) make them for the Cordoba bridle. I saw an Albion one but it was too narrow cheekpieces (1/2 inch) and so the buckles will be too small for the Sabre tongue to fit through (as the Sabre bridle is 5/8th inch).

Any suggestions???! Sabre won't make me one especially.

Why don't you approach a local saddler & get them to make what you need? Much easier way of getting a bespoke item & they will do everything to the right thickness for you.

I'd borrow one to try before you invest in one as I can't see why the horse would be happier in a drop than a flash - the end result, as far as the horse is concerned, is the same...

Many horses go better in a drop than a flash as there is less pressure and its spread over a different area of the mouth. I tried my lass in a flash and she hated it and started frantically shaking her head and trying to rub it off (teeth cheked and all ok) yet in a drop she is absolutely fine and I have much better control when hacking out etc...

Kate Negus stuff is lovely - I'd go for one of them if I were you.

That's exactly what he does - shakes his head frantically up and down, making a funny noise as his lips hit each other, then putting his head down to his legs and scratching the side of his mouth. It's ruining my bridle as when he's tied up he rubs the side of his mouth on everything. I know a drop will still go under his chin but I just feel that I have to try something.

Oh, and he's a nightmare when I try to do the flash strap up - he's nearly knocked me out twice!

I'll ring KN and see if they do them the right size. failing that, I may have to get a very cheap/2nd hand drop noseband and try it with my old bridle just to see what he thinks to it.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

More blooming expense!!

I have exactly the same problem and am not impressed with Sabre!
I have the cordoba with flash but after months of trouble was recommended to try my mare in a drop and it was like having a totally different horse. She works beautifully in it now and is 100% less stressed and full of tension. Unfortunately I had trouble finding a drop to go with the Cordoba so am at the moment riding in an old bridle till I find a resolution. Will keep an eye on this post.
Good luck and anyone from Sabre reading this " Thanks for all your help" NOT!

Hmph. No joy with Kate Negus (though extremely friendly and helpful), they're noseband hangers go all the way over the top.

Looks like it's just us then, wanting a drop noseband for our Sabre bridles!

Blast. My old bridle's so tatty.

Ahhhh thank you

Completely a different problem but I think youve solved it!!!
My horse goes better in a drop too but ends up with rubbed lips (near bit). Hes black, dont know if this is anything to do with it but everything seems to rub round his mouth and I'd never though of bit rubbers (they are on the piccy in the link.)

Check the fit of the flash, I know that some horses work better in a drop but I've never had a problem with a flash but then I don't do it up so that it closes the mouth but instead so that it just done up when the horse naturally has its mouth shut and rests again the skin and only comes into affect if the horse opens its mouth wide, not just a little, as then the horse can chew if it wants. Also make sure that the cavesson is the right height (at the middle not the sides) as it may be that the flash is restricting his breathing, easy to do I've done it by mistake occaisionaly. Good luck.
