Over this summer I want to enter my Irish Hunter into a few small showing classes, nothing big just some local ones, like at the Somerton Horse Show .... And I was wondering, is a drop noseband allowed in these kind of classes? I'm looking at ridden hunter and veteran classes more specifically. And what kind of bits are legal too? (sorry for throwing two questions in here!) I've got a roller eggbutt which I'm hoping I'll get away with! His lordship gets quite strong and silly if we go anywhere, so I need something that will hopefully keep him concentrating and stop him from grabbing the bit and jumpng around like a donkey while we are in the ring. Thanks :D

To be honest you'll find the majority of the horses in those classes will be ridden in double bridles or a pelham with two reins. Snaffle bits are ok for novices and you'll get away with that at local level, but the double/pelham would be better and sounds like it could be better for you as well.

I have only ever seen a cavesson noseband in showing classes, except working hunter which is more flexible. I certainly wouldn't use a drop in a flat class as, tbh, good as they are, they make the horse's head look ugly. Kind of against the point of showing.
