Hmmm

Do you know anyone to do with horses that has anything to do with drugs?

Only I cant because if I get tested I will get chucked out of the BSJA (I know people that have been tested at BN second rounds BTW) Everyone I know stays clear with the exception of the jockey grooms…who all seem to be off their heads.

So just interested!

How long before this post is deleted? Shall we place bets?

Hmmm

social drugs.

It is of interest, PG, because of the last post (the one that got deleted)

Maybe I am naieve but I don’t thing drugs are AT ALL prominent in the horsey world – drug money or takers or whatever.

The last post got me thinking that maybe I am completely missing something?

You sound disappointed that you can't take drugs? Very strange, strange post in any case. I don't really like the way you are tarnishing the reputation of jocky grooms as being a group of drug users either.

PG maybe you could explain why you think that.

Drugs are a part of society and something that are not going to go away. There is some statistic that says cocaine is on one in 3 banknotes or something.

As I have said before I just don’t see it in the equine world, but I do in my everyday life ( I work in media so it is a huge problem) and I wanted to know if I am missing something.

I don't really know anyone who is involved with drugs for financial gain.
I think most drug usage falls into two categories; the very poor and the very rich.
The latter category, will inevitabley cross over into some horse owners too but I think it is more than a society thing than a horse world thing.
I know lots of people who regularly snort coke, they include horse owners and non horse owners. Those involved in the horse world do not do it through their involvement in the horse world (in fact probably through their involvement with the ones not involved in the horse world - if that makes sense). I don't think horses increases or decreases the chances of people being involved in drugs, I really don't thin it's one of the factors.

I didn’t say that all racing grooms are off of their heads, just the ones that I know ( I clearly don’t know the right ones) so sorry about that…I am also not disappointed that I cant take drugs thank you very much they really don’t interest me and I am hyper enough anyway!

You see, in answer to my own post, I know plenty of people that take an assortment of ‘recreational’ drugs, and some of my friends have gone through stages of doing so….however, no one I know in the horsey world does, or at least if they do they are not so obvious.

To me horses have kept me away from all things ‘drugs’ as I cant afford them and don’t like the idea of being a mess and not being able to ride etc…it also scares me that something would happen and my horses would have noone to love them! So they are of no interest what so ever,

In fact, the only people I know who do it have nothing better to focus their attention on!

I know what you are trying to say FF, I have no interest in them and nor do a lot of my sporty or horsey friends and do think if you have other interests, including horses amoungst other sports, you are far far less likely to get involved as you are not bored and looking for a cheap thrill.

Like most things though, its a lot down to personality and circumstances...

When i have kids, i will certainly be working hard to fill their lives with interests, sports and hopefully horses, to keep them entertained and not turning to drugs!

I think this is probably a badly worded post. It took me a couple of readings to work out what you were writing.
Ummm I know one famous ex rider who was known for taking a certain recreational drug!
Personally I do not see how drugs can really make a difference to your riding. I guess alcohol could make you braver but surely your judgement with that would go. Cocaine could make you more confident but again surely you would take a calculated risk too far? I am pretty naieve to drugs horses kept me away from them.

I deal crack from my horse - seems to make you appear less inconspicuous and makes for a quick getaway if needed.

Only problem I have is that Ty won't stand still on the street corner which can be a bit embarassing.

drugs have never really appealed to me and even if they did i doubt i could afford them and a horse - and the horse would definatly win that decision!!!

i do know a few people who take drugs within a social context and have horses although i dont think the two are linked at all.

PMSL that is sooo funny

My ex-boyfriend was drug tested at an international show. He had to pee in a bottle, but he couldn't go as he was so nervous about jumping, so he had to drink gallons of water, and then managed to pee all over his white breeches. It was very embarrassing and I had to run out and buy him a new pair from the trade stands - and he never paid me back! We split up not long after that.
It never really occurred to me that riders could be tested - the odd joint was certainly not unknown in lorry parks - but I imagine people are much more clued up nowadays.
