Hey,

Need some quick advice for a friend. Her mare has very dry frogs at the moment, to the point where they are cracking and peeling quite badly. (I've not personally seen them but thought I'd ask your advice on here)
What would you recommend to do or use on it? I presume if she gets something stuck inbetween the dry bits, she will end up very foot sore.

Would something like Kevin Bacon dressing or Naf hoof moist work?

Thanks in advance :)

It sounds like the frogs are going through their natural exfoliation process. Personally, I wouldn't put anything on them, just let Mother Nature do her stuff and let them abrade against the hardening ground - just keep an eye on them to make sure nothing is caught in any really ragged areas.

not sure if its the same thing but i saw a frog completely come off this horse hoof, only to find a nice healthy one underneath, i cant remember if it was looking cracked and unhealthy before but i would assume its just the way they change/heal etc

Yeah Sarah was wondering this, the flesh underneath is apparently still white though instead of being dark! Told her to keep an eye on it and see what happens over the next couple of days :)

The same as the above has just happened to my mare's frog, what was the outcome of your friend's horse's hooves?
