Hi - My 2yo welsh A has a dry cough - nothing coming out of nose etc. I believe it is being caused by the hay. He is in at night (one slice of hay) out on good grazing (no hay) during the day.

Is it likely to cause long term damage if I ignore it - he is obviously doing no work at the moment though I was thinking of starting the backing process in the Spring.

I don't really want to start soaking his hay now due to the freezing temps.

Thanks for any advice.

Have you thought of steaming it? Couple of kettles on boiling water over a haynet in a dustbin. Then put the lid on for 5-10 mins. Should be enough to dampen the dust down.
My boy has a dry cough- prob doesn't do much harm, but not very nice for them either!! I also make sure that his food is damp too! Seems to work!
