dry flakes in clumps under fetlock welsh section d ??

Hi guys just wondered if atone knows what these dry flakes are caused by and how to treat on all four legs under the fetlock on my horses legs ? I've just hogged them back to get a closer look ...http://s28.postimg.org/8p35qd2xp/20150726_162716.jpg Thanks in advance

hiya my welsh B had something similar to this a few years back his heels were really dry with flakes of sort of greasy skin which then caused him to get sunburnt aswell but I washed them really well with hibiscrub then put loads of sudacream on then put turn out boots over the top to stop him licking the cream off and after about a week or so his heels where nice and soft again. The vet reckons it was possibly cause by what the farmers had been spraying on the fields that year

Any new bedding? Mine reacts poorly to changes, maybe due to the different oils in the shavings/pellets. It might be a mild case of mallenders/sallenders.

I'd possibly agree. Last year, my Sec D had something that looked the same. Washed with weak hibiscrub and combed through but it didn't go away and then he got small scabs above his hocks. Got vet to have a look. Thought mites and gave me some Frontline spray. Treated him twice, a week apart and it never came back.
