Went to get horse in from field sat afternoon and found him standing naked in the heavy rain!!! Bless him he honestly looked like a large drowned rat...

Found rug in big puddle in middle of field - it was SO sopping wet that had to get OH to come down to help me drag it out and wheelbarrow it back.

Put rug on straw in barn but it's still quite wet (barn is obviously covered but bit damp).

Has anyone got any ideas how to dry it out? It's his HW one and it's pretty cold here now.

Many thanks

PS - rug was found with straps still done up....

Can you take it into the house for a few hours, hang it over a clothes horse. When mine have got wet through to the inside I take them in the house to dry, a bit smelly I know but hey ho.

Ditto. And put a fan heater or something underneath it to help dry it out quicker. Or better still drape over an oil filled radiator if you've got one.

We hang ours in our boiler room overnight if they are that wet - doesn't help much if you're at a yard!

Do you know anyone with a greenhouse/conservatory you could put it in - at least if the sun comes out it'll be a bit warmer

I think this may be the only way (will take it to OH's

Not sure we have a heater but may just have to go near radiator.

Think I'll do it before he gets back from work though......

Poor honey (my horse) it's freezing today!!

I ended up buying two of everything for my mare - at her old yard the bottom of the field used to flood about 1 foot deep and she used to roll in it!!!!! Found it much easier to have spares available as my house is too tiddly to hang a huge rug in it. I tried using a hair drier once but after an hour gave up.....

If you've got a spare, could you bundle it up in a hippo bag & take it to be cleaned? Then it will come back clean & not pongy. I feel sorry for you cos rugs are soooo revolting when they get like that.

I've got a fab rug drier which is like a HUGE heated towel rail on wheels. It's oil filled, cheap to run, doesn't take up much space & cost about £200. It will dry 2 soaked rugs overnight.

Thanks for all your replies! Think best bet is to bring it back to OH's - not sure I could drag it up to my flat which is 4 floors up!!! He has a stinky dog so I shall just add to it with stinky rug!!

Off to fish it out the barn now mmmm fun!

(Might get another one as spare as he seems to like trashing all his belongings)

Oh it will outdo the stinky dogs!!Trust me! I have done this once only put it by radiator and let it dry,we also have 2 dogs. The smell was horrendous.Smelly warm poohy smell wafting through the house.

Hope you have a very tolerant OH!!My OH was not amused when he came home from work.
