Drying feathered legs

Do you think using thermatex style bandaging wraps under bandages would be good for drying really hairy legs?

Rather than drying them, have you thought about putting something like baby oil or pig oil on them when they are dry?

That's what I do with my cobs feathers and they are always clean and shiny. Even when they are wet it doesn't affect his legs.

I don't know the reason you are wanting them dry though.

I used to use PO&S but for some reason he had a reaction to it last year so have stopped using it. I'm moving to a yard that is heavy clay so will have to wash his legs - to be fair he's so hairy that his actual legs won't get too wet!

I find blotting my lads feathers with a towel, then combing feathers out helps dry them quicker, before a show I wash his tail, then bag it and it's always still very damp the next morning, next year i will wash his tail sooner so it can be bagged when dry, I'm working on making him leggings to keep him clean before a show, he's a coloured with lots of white

I'd try baby oil instead, I much prefer using this and doubt he will have a reaction to this.

Thermatex wraps will make legs hot, an ideal place for bacteria to breed in a feathered type ...Better to use pig oil before putting out, then hose, towel and stable on wood pellets at night, imo

I used to have to wash and dry shire horses feathers all the time. We used fine sawdust (like you'd use for hamsters). Put a bit in a large tub trug and rub the sawdust over and throughout the feathers, comb out and then run a bit of pig oil through them.
