How are Dubbary style boots for riding in? I was going to get a pair and wondered what they were like?

If you are getting real Dubarry's you're not supposed to ride in them... it wrecks the lining on the inside of the boot. Mine are only worn out eventing for course walking and things. No riding! Friend has cheaper (Dubarry type) boots and rides in them without a problem. So I suppose it depends on what boots you intend on buying :) Can't beat a proper pair of Dubarry's but I personally won't ride in them. :)

I ride up to 3 horses a day and live in mine for general yard duties. I'm on my 2nd pair after the 1st died after 3 years of abuse, including getting stuck in a peat bog! I love them, not had a problem with the insides on mine.

Dont ride in real Dubarry's! I know many people who ride in Dublin River Boots etc which have more suitable soles and are tighter up the leg, but Dubarrys themselves aren't meant to be ridden in (well you can ride in them but not if you want them to last a long time!).

I Couldn't afford Dubarrys :( so went for the mark Todd country boots, they are great for riding in, mucking out and dealing with muddy fields- they have lasted well so far and are real comfortable - I think they were only about £80 aswell which is good compared to most others of that style :)

i have been riding in my dubarry boots for over 3 years and they are still in good condition. i find them really comfy for riding. also rode in them on ranch holidays where it is really hot -but the fact they are breathable meant they were fine

People will probably shoot me but the closest my Dubarry boots have got to a horse was going to watch the Boxing Day hunt meet!
Mine just look pretty on my legs in the winter lol. To be fair I can't ride in long boots so can't help sorry

As an alternative try Ariat Grasmeres, they're designed to ride in as well as fully waterproof etc so equivalent to Dubarrys but able to ride in as well.

Sorry to hyjack, but I had dubarrys years ago, and have used chameau wellies, and now bublin river boots.

I have wide calves, and apprarantly dubarrys are now a narrow fit, which model of dubarrys would you all recommend for fat calves?

Ps sorry if this is a poor paragraph, peeing it down here and sat on door step getting soaked :D

i have the dubarry wexford and they are wide fitting - would recommend them - they are at bit pricey though but worth it i think

I bought ariat grasmeres specifically because the original dubarrys were not designed to be ridden in, but I think they brought some out that you can - 'Claires', is that right? Ipreferred the Ariats because they looked to be a closer fit on the leg, were higher cut, and had a strap at the top to stop them slouching too much. Love them.

How fat? I have the wide fit Dubarrys and LOVE THEM, they fit my 18" Jambons perfectly - I find them fine to ride in, the Wexfords wouldn't be suitable IMO as they have very 'grippy' soles

xx

i think i might get some toggi ones, will they be right for riding?

I have the Toggi Canyon ones and wouldn't be without them! I have had mine now for about a year, and for the first 6 months I didn't ride in them as I was unable to ride, but since then I have always worn them as they really support my legs (I have very unpredictable tendons it seems). They're not damaged at all and clean up really well, meaning I can wear them to events where I'm not riding too :) no problems with the lining or anything else.

I've done everything in mine and worn them continuously, they now have a hole in them after three years...gutted :-( didn't help that they were never cleaned or treated. Probably would have lasted a lot longer. They are fab boots.

Not quite Dubarry but I have Dublin river boots which were about £110 and I ride in them. The inner inside lining on one boot seems to have caved in though which might be off riding. They're quite comfy to ride in though. x

Will give them a try, did not know they existed!

Do they make your legs look bigger????

That is what I am scared of, I really hate my legs :( I saw a lady yesterday with zip up dubarrys, and they looked lovely, experiences??

I have massive legs so it's impossible to make them look smaller :D These are mine. None of the normal dubarry's fitted me. I love these ones though, they're a perfect fit.
