Sorry, newbie but I felt this was the place to ask.

I purchased a pair of Dubarry Galways off ebay not long ago, they're the lighter brown colour with mahogany.

Now upon receiving them a few days ago I noticed they didn't look exactly as I expected and upon investigating I've found that the light colour part is suede, and not the harder leather that I was expecting (as is on the dubarry website).

I can't send them back now as I've given positive feedback etc so all is finished with the transaction.

But I'm curious, when did Dubarry release a suede version? Are these a really old style and I've been fobbed off? (Almost new was the description). Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

They really aren't what I want as suede drops quite badly and doesn't age well so will probably put them back on ebay, which I'm gutted about. I should have enquired before buying but oh well.

This will teach me to buy online! The extra money buying them from new is feeling worth it now. :(

Thanks

The really soft suede? They seem totally different from all the ones I've seen before, as if they're an old style. The newer ones have a tougher nubuck sort of thing rather than soft suede, I swear?! Or am I going mad?!

Hmmm... I have a pair that are over a year old and the lighter parts are definitely a soft suede. My new ones are the darker brown but defiantly a soft suede too, harder than my other ones but they go softer with use.

No, I'm almost certain they've always been suede!

Mine are definitely a soft suede... they haven't got the texture of the new boots at all? I think I need to pop to a shop and see them to confirm but from memory the boots I've received just aren't what I was expecting. From what I know the current boots have a sort of soft leather texture to them with grains, if that makes any sense. Yet mine are soft suede, similar to Ugg boots.
So confused.

I think that's best, it's difficult to describe in words what they're actually made of! For instance on my old ones(I ride I'm them) at the insides where they come in to contact with the horse, the 'suede' bit has worn away and it's just leather. So I'd say is leather with a suede type feel. If its like ugg boots then perhaps they're a fake or something

Jesus please don't say they're fake! The soles are identical to Dubarry, they have the gore-tex and size label on the outside (although they're vertical rather than horizontal) etc. The leather is probably slightly lighter than the current website ones.
The suede part is very similar to the suede of my Ariat Grasmeres.

Will pop into my local country store and have a look, but I think they will be going back on ebay at this rate! :( Pretty gutted.

I have Ariat windmeres which have a really similar suede. When I cleaned the suede part I used the proper Ariat nubuck

I have Ariat windmeres which have a really similar suede. When I cleaned the suede part I used the proper Ariat nubuck/suede cleaner and after the clean the suede went really soft and took about a week to return to 'normal'. Perhaps the seller gave them a really good clean before sending them?!

Suggest you contact Dubarry and ask, maybe email them a photo and give description as per eBay ad, and see what they say. Dubarry's are supposed to have a lifetime guarantee, did you get sent this with the boots?

No way dubarrys have a lifetime guarantee. They aren't interested at all when the sticking went or when the sole fell off and that was after 2 years

Can you take a photo?

All Dubarry boots are soft suede with leather and the suede gradually hardens over time to formal a darker material (well that's what mine have done and my best friend's and another friend's...)
