not sure wether to splurge and get dubarrys or get a cheaper alternative but is there much difference in the actual boot?

I have these http://www.welligogs.com/Wellington_Wellies/Leather_Country_Boots/137_Ranger__Leather_Country_Boot.html

They are brilliant! I wear them loads, mainly for dog walking, a bit of riding, etc etc. They say they are waterproof to the bottom of the gusset (oo-er) but I have walked through puddles up to almost the top of the boot and my feet have stayed dry. They are super comfortable, warm in winter but also cool enough in warmer weather. They clean up really easily, hose them down to get the mud off and leave them to dry! I LOVE them!

Why are you asking again, when this has already been asked - by you
