Just how good are they?

I'm not spending the best part of £300 on anything that isn't absolutely brilliant
tongue.gif
Will they stand up to being worn everyday in winter, outdoors, and walking miles in all weathers? Can they handle mud? Or are they going to give up after a few months...

I LOVE mine - wouldn't be without them! I have done everything in mine - walked through nearly knee deep mud (yes it as almost coming over the top!) ridden (schooled and hacked) and mucked out ammonia filled stables, ie, swept out under rubber matting yuk!

They are still in great condition! I use the Dubarry cleaner and then I apply Oakwood leather conditionr. I try and religously do this at least once a week, or after a particularly heavy session (eg ammonia pit!)

I have walked miles and miles in mine - so comfy! I also have the Le Chameu neoprene wellies, and tbh I find the Dubarry's much warmer.

Thumbs up from me

Absolutely fantastic, I honestly don't know what I did without them.

I have only (?) had mine a year and bit, but I kid you not I must have worn them at some point every day over that time

I have been up kinder scout with them, been round Burghley/Chatsworth and various other events and point to points. I walk the dog every day in them. Been in mid calf height water wading through a river, been in ankle deep mud, been trudging through a good foot or so of snow and they haven't even thought about leaking.

They are warm when its cold and cool when its warm, they keep my feet dry and come the weekend I can clean them up, good as new and wear them to pub. They haven't left my feet

And no, I'm not being paid by them.

They really are worth it IMO

Ohhhhhhh I was kind of hoping you'd say they're rubbish
tongue.gif
better start saving then and I might get a pair by Burghley

Geek alert question - how are the soles attached? Are they just glued on? It's the soles that are giving up on my Malhams and the cobbler said it's quite common for boots to have soles that are just glued on now which causes problems

I loved mine and would definitely recommend - just make sure you clean them regularly! I killed mine completely after two years of heavy wear (mucking out 8+ stables most days, trekking through mud etc) without cleaning them once..

Learn from my laziness and enjoy!

ETA: just saw your post - soles were still firmly attached to mine after all this, they were just split at the edges where your toe bends the leather.

I love min! had them for about a year, walk the dogs in them, walk Xc course and through water etc. I just clean them with water and saddle soap and they are still in good condition. Bought them a little too small so can only fit a thin pair of socks in them, but my feet never get cold!
sorry!xx

They are fab. I am about to put mine to sleep as they're over 5 years old now and are worn every day in poo, pee, mud, rain, more poo, snow etc.! I'm going to Windsor Horse Show to buy another pair....plus you get a glass of bubbly on the Dubarry stand whilst you mull over your purchase

I always look at it, how many traditional wellies would you go through in 5-6 years wearing them daily? Maybe a pair a year at £50 each? Kinda works out the same but Dubarry's look better than wellies.

Spudlet have a look at these....

http://www.equestrianclearance.com/products/leisure_riding/footwear/index.html

I go the Harry Hall Willow boots at the start of winter and they have been fab - I wear them every day to do the horses, mucking out etc and walking the dogs - they have been (and currently are!) covered in mud. I hose them off and periodically treat the leather with some leather balsaam and the suede bit with some suede cleaner/protector and they look great still. They are totally waterproof (so far
smile.gif
! and I have deliberately waded through puddles as well as being pushed in the puddles by the neds

) and the best of all is they they are fleecey lined so toasty toes even in the snow
grin.gif
.

I am going to buy a spare pair for if and when they die.....although the long ones look nice to..............

Spudlet, they are absolutely fab IF you look after them properly. Mine are used every day for walking, all weathers, and always come back wet and muddy. My first pair cracked across the top and Dubarry insisted I needed to give them more care. I used their own cream once a week but I don't think this is always enough. I had a bit of a battle with them as there is a problem with treating them any more frequently: their cream has to be applied to dry leather; as the leather has to be washed off first and then left to dry thoroughly for 24 - 48 hours, cleaning them twice a week would mean they are out of action for part of the time! I've got round this by getting Nikwax products which can be used on wet leather.

They really are incredibly comfortable - I have never had sore feet or blisters in them and I do a lot of walking. I also have knackered feet from years of ballet and most other boots leave my feet really painful. If you can look after them, I would definitely recommend them.

I will need a glass of bubbly to hand that amount of cash over at one time

And it is that kind of shopping logic that has got me me into such overdraftly trouble
grin.gif
(which is why I have to save for the dratted things and not just splurge on them

)

SU - I do like the long boots, think I might manage with my Malhams until I can upgrade though...
tongue.gif
grin.gif
Hopefully the life support that the cobbler is giving them will keep them going a bit longer yet, it is only one boot that is a bit leaky at the moment... **crosses fingers tightly**

Tinkerbee - just looked at that website you linked too, and saw this, which got me thinking;

"The average pair of feet perspires about a glass of fluid each day"

Now, instantly I was thinking "wow" but then I realised it doesn't say what type of glass... Are we talking shot glass or pint glass.... I wonder what they mean.

I have these

http://www.blissatbourton.co.uk/ourshop/prod_261858-Wyre-Valley-Waterproof-Boots.html

which people mistake for genuine Dubarry and are slightly wider in the calf so fit my chunky little legs in.

My first pair survived daily mucking out, paddling through mud fields, beating, and walking the dogs from Burghley 2008 until last month when OH replaced them as he decided they looked too dirty!! Still wear them up at the yard, think they have at least another year left in them

Maybe it depends on the size of foot - your dainty size fours lose a shot glass, while your clodhopping size 12s lose a yard of ale, kind of thing...

I have those ones and fit my chubby little legs perfectly! I must admit I am petrified to do anything too messy in them!

Now there's a thought...

. Hm. Have told D1 she could have a pair, think I'll have to be a mean mummy lol. Just bought her some breeches and a rain sheet for shows, and a show shirt! Must be my turn lol

Firstly, mine weren't that much over £200....

Secondly, they are MORE than brilliant
grin.gif
I don't just see to the horses in them, I cox, coach, bike, dog walk, go beating etc in them. Mine are about 18 months old, and still going strong
